…you have ever played or ran? What was the scenario, was it just a throw down with friends, was it a convention game, what rule system did you use, how many models were involved, just estimate that last bit. Okay Go! |

I've played a few six player games using Bolt Action rules. These were casual games played for the fun of it. There had to be over a hundred troops a side. Plus a tank for each player. The scenario for such games is almost always a meeting engagement. |

I played a big Pegasus Bridge game at Cold Wars. I think there were 12 players, although it was sort of broken up into two games -- one at either end of the bridge. 28mm figs, Bolt Action rules. |

Dang! You said 28mm. Don't have those. 😜 |

Five player Carentan game in Chain of Command on a 5x8 table. I've run/played in several three table games of Bolt Action. Three players a side with 1000 points each, a 4x18 total length table. |

Many years ago we ran a huge Stalingrad game of around a company per side. We had a custom built flour mill and Pavlov's house for the game and it ran all day. We used Disposable Heroes. It was a fun time. |

We did a big Bolt Action Pacific game, pics of the first game. Doubled the landing craft and marines for the second game.

D6 that is a fantastic looking table. Are the landing craft scratch built as they look great and miniature friendly. Okay you guys are giving me encouragement that it is possible and feasible to do a large WW II game in 28mm. Please post more. |

The size of figure does not limit the size of game you can put on, the latter is only limited by space, time and imagination. I don't own any 28s, WW2 in four scales is quite sufficient for me, but we've done huge games in 54mm, the largest being a full division assault, albeit at one base per platoon. 54mm figures and 1/48th scale vehicles. |
Cerdic | 11 Feb 2016 12:27 a.m. PST |
Martin is right. There was the famous 54mm game at Salute a few years back. I've no idea how many figures were involved but there were dozens of tanks and vehicles. On a 70 foot long table….. |

Number of players – 10 in a participation game we called The Scottish Game. A soviet raid on a British science base on the Scottish coast in the 1970's. Size of table – Granville 1945. Demo of the German raid from the Channel Islands against the port of Granville on the west Normandy coast in March 1945 (look it up, it is amazing). Table was 25 feet long, with a 12 foot by 12 foot harbour at one end (with a hole in the middle so we could reach the figures) and the rest being 6 foot deep for the beach area. Best advice to run it is to keep your rules as simple as possible, have as many players familiar with the game as possible to play or assist and have good handouts explaining the game and how the terrain, vehicles and figures were sourced. If there is someone available to answer questions on the build all the better. And make sure that it is fun for all players, no one wants to join a game only to get thrashed in the 1st couple of moves. |

The biggest game I ever played in was Market Garden game at Fall-In somewhere in Maryland. It has about 20 players and about 10 GMs. The players were the Germans and the GMs played the Allies. The entire battle was covered and lasted the entire convention. The table was 65 feet long. The line of tanks making their way on the "single road" was impressive. The parachute drops were depicted masterfully. It was quite a sight. I even got an Iron Cross for defending the Waal. I will always have fond memories of that game. Phil |

Hey Kallman, all scratchbuilt |
Extra Crispy | 11 Feb 2016 5:25 p.m. PST |
I played a Market Garden game using Flames of War rules much like Phil but it was with 15s…things went very, very badly for the Allies as 30 Corps never really got off tehir jump point. |

For me it was probably our 28mm Tarawa games we ran together at various HMGS cons. We had nearly a company of both Marines and Japanese, pus a number of US vehicles. |
kallman | 12 Feb 2016 2:33 p.m. PST |
You know Naz right after I started this thread I realized, HEY! Nazrat and I have put on some pretty large 28mm games. Yes the Tarawa game was one of the best. Miss working on those projects with you. I want to try and recreate that same scale here in Texas. Oh and D6Junkie you should post a how to on those landing craft. |

Many years ago there was a convention in the Kansas City area, even before Recruits. There was as three day Salerno game which covered from the landings to Axis collapse. That would have to be the largest none historic on game. |

Martin – I think my wife and I now own a lot of the figures (John Lander's collection?) you'd have been using and we'd be interested to hear about the rules etc. used for the divisional game if you can spare a minute – I'm at …. thathistorybloke@btinternet.com Bolt Action? We did an Arnhem (in Arnhem) game with (I think) 9 players and several hundred figures – there's pics on eh Amsterdam sixshooters site. Brits were – 21st Independent Company plus about 100 REs and Glider Pilots, so well over 250 figures and Germans about double that…plus we recycled some German casualties. Phil, was that the game for which Martin Baber did the scenery? And a chap whose name I cannot recall wrote the rules? We'd very much like to get our hands on the rules with a view to using them for a foolishly-large game in a couple of months time. |

Also..a Divisional Rapid Fire game in Burma, late 1944. 24 foot table with two 8x 6 wings ..20mm and 9 players/2 umpires..the umpires were very, very busy. |

Planning a big game for next Sunday; about 750-800 figures and 70 vehicles…and a battery of 8 Airborne 75mm Howitzers. Anyone who fancies getting themselves to Shetland is very welcome to join us. |
