Back in 1957 Jack Scruby put out a slim 12 page so mimeographed publication of the above title which was a guide to the beginning gamer.

In 1996 I put out as part of a club effort/open house a 16 page full color publication of the same name. It was designed for the person who hadn't known a blessed thing about war games until 15 minutes ago. It would be quite boring to all of you, but was a compendium of the basics of the hobby, from history, to toy soldiers, to scale, painting, had three sets of rules for simple games (ancient, modern, and musket) and one on naval games. One on books on games, clubs, etc. We, and the Society of Daisy made this available generally to any who wanted them to hand out at their meetings or to stuff into the hands of newbies.

The Society of Daisy is presently starting on rewriting the booklet and again will make it available to any who wish it. Again, this is designed for the absolute open-mouthed-astonished newbie, and is meant as a guide and pointer to where to go next.

NO advertising will be accepted. Only hard content will be used. We'll probably make this a "Bonus Issue" to Saxe N' Violets, the only print E-Zine remaining in the world. The plan presently is to make this available to any club who wishes it, in tabloid format. This will allow you to download it and reprint it on a local Xerox machine. The size of each sheet will be 11x17 and four of these will make the folder you can saddle staple together to make the 16 page booklet. The last page will have about half a page to fit your club or group logo and points of contact if you wish to use it.

Tim, 4 of the 11 x 17 pages (back and front) makes
16 pages each 8 1/2 x 11.

At least, I think that's what he means.
