Oh bless the two lads. (We cannot use the T word in our house. Our sons happen to share their genes as well as a birthday, but they are just brothers they insist). The Perrys got me back into 28mm, even if it was Orcs, Urakhai, Gondor and Rohirrim initially… Then I discovered they did Waterloo figures, like I had done in 1971-5 (but that was Airfix and we all know you cannot take, seriously, anything in plastic or 1/72 surely, can you Marc?).

This evening I wept.

I will leave it to Tango to tell you we now have Norwegian infantry from Perrys. (The sun rises later over his way.) This makes me happy……very.

Truly my heart sings. It is brilliant that they have tackled "difficult" subjects like the Empire Intervention in ACW, or brilliant, but surely not money-spinning, figures of frozen corpses from the Retreat from M. I am sure that the minor German states needed coverage…..and boy are they quality?. ……….They would be. Every year sees an improvement in anyone's work……..

Aye, but here's the Rub……..some of the best known units of the N Wars are overlooked by the guys who set the standards…The Perrys!

I am a huge fan of Westfalia's vehicles, Gringos40s recent releases, even Front Rank latest work, but we rely on the Ps.

Gents, what about some Carabiniers in cuirasses…in metal? You know the plastic ones are not up to the cuirassiers' standard. You finally did the Gendarmes, but what about 2e Eclaireurs? What about any cavalry unit in the cut away coat exposing the waistcoat, universal for most of this period…overnight they become Grenadiers or Dragoons (Guard or Line), earlier carabiniers etc etc? You are releasing the most obscure infantry and ignoring some of the most iconic units of that era.

Engineers of the Norwegian Garde, or even the train of, next? Norwegian pontoniers??

Yes, they are fantastic work. That is what hacks me off so much. Is it what we all are crying out for? Very imaginative….that does not exclude slightly mad though!

If you are going to do a Norwegian force, you need Jegers, they have been part of Norwegian military for Centuries and tok part in all "major" battles of 1808 and 1814.

I personally would do any Norwgian/Swedish war as a skirmish game.

The Danish and Norwegian uniforms are essentially similar, not surprisingly, but these are beautiful indeed. I shall have to resurrect the photos on my Norwegian page (The site they were linked to sadly passed out of existence, but I recovered them via the Wayback machine, just haven't had time to reinsert them into the post). I also have some limited additional Norwegian information that I can add to that already on my blog (

The "Norwegian" grenadiers are pretty much the Danish ones in the pre bearskin hat, but none the less wonderful despite that. Hopefully they will do the Danish and Norwegian Cavalry as well, and Artillery.

Finally, the Ski Troops! Gotta do 'em! :-)

I have restored (more or less) the photos to my 2 existing blog posts on the Norwegian Army of the Napoleonic Wars:

I will have a third and final post on the subject in the next few days. Of course, my 11 part series on the Danish Army of the Napoleonic Wars is also very relevant here as well:

Bonjour Mes Amis,

Outstanding sculpts as usual.

Gonsalvo – absolutely delighted and grateful for your information on Scandinavian chaps so very helpful.

I wonder if there will be a "Saga" (a la "The Bridge") Cantiniere?

Meanwhile, second deadhead's encouragement for les jumeaux to please do metal Carabinier avec cuirass as there are currently no alternatives as even the Perry plastics won't do as they are only plastic!

Cheers,

Paul

Very nice site link Gonsalvo, lot's of info on that forgotten "side show" of the 1813 campaign. Makes me feel like going for a few Danish units after all, but I still have so much other projects to finnish first. The Danes must wait a bit.
And just like deadhead I am eagerly awaiting Perry French éclaireurs!

Gonsalvo11 Feb 2016 2:41 p.m. PST

Thanks, guys. The Scandinavian countries are not that easy to find good information on. Certainly a sideshow, but the impact of the (peace ending) the Napoleonic Wars on Scandinavia was huge – Finland lost by Sweden to Russia, Norway lost by Denmark to Sweden. In addition, the Danish/Norwegian army is very colorful!

As I said, I have a bit more on Norway to post in the next few days, and will eventually do a series on the Swedes as well.

Tango, welcome, if late.

The sun rises here many hours earlier, but, if you must live in the Western Hemisphere…….

Glad you could join us…

Seriously. Thanks for all you contribute. Occasionally we can beat you..what fun.

The next release will be Perrys' Norwegian Guard Pontoniers, Train of Pontoniers, of course, in both campaign and full dress, 1806 obviously, with the cart made by NR (bless him…what talent). Just what we have been asking for…………….?

Who needs decent Carabiniers in metal or any single cavalryman in the cut away coat with the exposed waistcoat…? As worn by almost every trooper pre 1812?

Tango0112 Feb 2016 10:47 p.m. PST

Thanks for the welcome my friend… can wait for the new figures!! (smile).

I'm in Argentina or other South American country…

I don't see how you can put forward that the Danes are obscure, raising the 2e Eclaireurs as more main stream alternative…..?

Perry Miniatures Napoleonic range is the work of one man, Alan Perry, so I feel it most forgivable that a few 'nice to haves' are not in the catalogue……yet.

Remembering Alan commenced his Perry Miniatures Napoleonic range with the signature '1815' range, which for the greater part is complete. Over the past few years we have been lucky to see him working backwards through the era.

Alan & Michael are prolific military history enthusiasts and wargamers, who have pushed the hobby to the highest standards. They have been in the vanguard in the design & manufacture of the once only aspirational 28mm plastic figures, ensuring gamers can build large armies at a competitive price.

Whilst I await things like; Mamelukes, Pre Bardin French Dragoons, Old Guard Grenadiers in greatcoat marching, British rocket batteries, Russian Uhlans, more personality figures for all nations, the 28th ROF for Waterloo (& the Peninsula) and even Eclaireurs, I will not bash the Perry's for what they have not done or chose to do above other subject items.

regardless of whether or not this is what 'we' or more to the point 'you' have been asking for, it's what Alan chose to research, design and produce.

Could not argue with that……

Huge fan of their work myself. Vast proportion of my collection is their handiwork.

I should indeed be welcoming all these minor German states, Confed of Rhine, Scandinavians, plus the latest Egyptian campaign figures. I know I should, really……..

Totally agree they have earned the right to indulge themselves in "fringe subjects" and they have shown great imagination in their choices. The results look superb…..

But I can still wish for what seems to be so obviously missing. I moaned long enough about Gendarmes and they came up trumps in the end.
