I happen to own an original 1977-1978 Kenner toy blaster pistol, and was curious just how close it is to the movie prop (answer: "not very"), and Googling took me to this article: link

It's lengthy, but fascinating, and contains a few surprises, such as that the actual gun used as the base was in two other movies before Star Wars, a fact which makes sense (studios will of course reuse props they already have), but that you never really consider when you think about a specific character's iconic identifying prop.

In any case, I thought it fit in well with the miniature community's own interest in accuracy and detail.
