I put in an order with CinC almost a month ago and my credit card has yet to even be charged, let alone receive anything. I emailed them a few times and only got a brief reply about two weeks ago saying that my card would likely be charged the next day, but still nothing. Anyone know what's going on or experiencing the same thing? I starting to get concerned.

Call them?

ChrisB08 Feb 2016 3:34 p.m. PST

They don't have a phone number posted unfortunately.

I placed an order on 17 Jan and got it today. I did get an email confirmation from both PayPal and Cinc the day I placed the order.

I got a confirmation from CinC on Jan 13 when I placed the order, but since I used a credit card and not paypal I haven't received any other confirmation – and there has been no charge to my card yet (which on their website it says will be charged when they ship it – meaning after nearly a month it hasn't even shipped) should I be concerned?

Send another email and you will get SCREAMED at lol. That's what always happens to me, lol. There is a reason Randy stopped going, or was aksed not to come, to conventions anymore. Sad but true. Great products though!

Had the same issue, the product did arrive and true to form I got yelled at as well for wasting his time. While the product is very good, the customer service is so bad I will just stick with GHQ in the future

Really? That's crazy! How so exactly?? It all seems super unprofessional.

I have ordered 12+ times and have never had a problem with an order. After Christmas my order did take a little longer (2 weeks) than normal.

I really don't mind having to wait a little longer than usual, it's just the fact that its nearly been a month and my order hasn't even shipped yet – and the website says 7-14 days, so some sort of heads up would be appreciated from him.

Shame to hear. Have made many orders over the years with no issues, then again I never recall (thankfully it sounds like) having to contact him. My general rule when dealing with "Old Guard" manufacturers is to wait for a month or more (or near the dispute time limit if paying via PayPal or CC), or in the case of Viking Forge, keep an eye on the check clearing and crossing my fingers (never had an issue yet).

It's an unfortunate fact that there are many old grognards out there ill-suited to the modern business world. One of our hobby's many charms it would seem.

One concern I do have, given the amount of grey hair above, is what will happen to companies like CinC, Viking Forge and the like when their various owners retire. Hopefully they pass on to someone who has the same passion for the hobby, otherwise over the next decade or two we may begin to start seeing some old and dependable figure lines start to disappear.

GHQ is worth the extra money in both detail and customer service.

I just cancelled my orders with CinC – I'm going back to GHQ, they definitely are far better in my opinion.

eptingmike09 Feb 2016 11:14 a.m. PST

Hmm, never had a problem with CinC.
@Cold Warrior,
I have had similar thoughts recently. If I ever win the lottery I will pick up some of these lines, operational losses be damned! :)

@ChrisB
Regarding GHQ, while very nice I actually find the detail to be somewhat overwhelming. To each there own. :)

ChrisB09 Feb 2016 11:27 a.m. PST

@eptingmike – I definitely know what you're saying: the rivets, stowage, tow-cables etc. Is quite extensive, and might be too much, but it does help to bring out detail from a distance when there are lots of units in the table. I do wish I didn't have to worry about CinC issues though :/

They do occasionally pop up on ebay, for what it is worth. I am not sure what you were looking to purchase but War Time Journal has some absolutely fantastic 3d printed ships.
You could always try a second order and see if that runs smoother?

Cold Warrior:

Thank you for a thoughtful post. You have always been a great customer and your business is appreciated.

"It's an unfortunate fact that there are many old grognards out there ill-suited to the modern business world."

The Viking Forge is a part-time venture with a goal of zero growth. We have demanding full-time jobs and just can't spend any more time on it than we do right now. That's why we don't advertise, improve our website, use a cart system, increase production, add as many models to our range as you would like, attend more conventions or sell to distributors.

Someone once said that when your hobby becomes a business, then it isn't a hobby any more. Maybe that's one of the reasons why so many people seem so amateurish when operating miniatures companies.

"One concern I do have, given the amount of grey hair above, is what will happen to companies like CinC, Viking Forge and the like when their various owners retire. Hopefully they pass on to someone who has the same passion for the hobby, otherwise over the next decade or two we may begin to start seeing some old and dependable figure lines start to disappear."

While attending Fall In 2015 last year, I stopped for a moment and considered the dealer hall. We lost a lot of dealers and game designers in the last couple of years. Carl from Chesapeake, Jay Hadley, Pat Condray, John Hill, the names go on. I have been saying for many years that for every new mold that is made, another one is put on a shelf in a basement somewhere, never to be seen again.

But you know what? For every old grognard that passes on, some young guy will jump in and take over. And who knows, maybe even do it better. So I wouldn't worry too much about the future of miniatures, they will probably be around as long as there are collectors and gamers.

I have always believed that a rising tide floats all boats. I'm proud to say that Randy at CinC and Greg at GHQ are both friends of mine. I wish them well and would just as soon have them stay in business forever.

I have to say that I really like the kind text written by Tumbleweed.

Seldom enough good things are said.

Kind regards,
Benjamin
