I am considering to begin playing and collecting the "end times" books. A glance at Ebay seems to show four box sets but in soft and hard cover. Then there seems to be "special edition" hardcover with numbered sets. Can anyone tell me how many versions of these books exist? I see softcover, hardcover and then special edition. Is that correct for all four sets?

Yes, I think so. Can't tell you how many special editions though.

IIRC the softcovers are just the fluff books, not the ones with the rules.

They released five 'sets' of books for the End Times, in the following order:

1) Nagash
2) Glottkin
3) Khaine
4) Thanquol
5) Archaon

Each one received (initially) a slipcase book set comprised of a hardcover fluff book and a hardcover rules book. Each one ALSO received at the time of release a 'special collectors edition' set containing some art prints, premium covers etc. However if you got the standard 'two book' sets you had everything you needed.

Subsequently, having vastly underestimated how rapidly these would sell out, they released softcover reprint editions of (I think) all five, however I am not sure if they did these as two book editions or not. My understanding is that you should want to find two book sets of all five to make sure you get the full story.

They also released a series of novels linked to the End Times some of which have the same names so be very careful what you are buying! Any other questions ask away, I have all five on the shelf (and beautiful books they are too).

Bob, thank you for the succinct summary. Very helpful. I'm ebaying away as we speak.
