Hi all, sitting in front of the TV with a severe case of man-flu, I stumbled on this movie- Destination: Gobi link 1953 Technicolor. Amazingly its supposed to be based on a true story link . I must admit I'd never heard of anything like this before. Basically the US Navy set up some small weather stations in Inner Mongolia during WWII. These are hunted down by the Japanese whereupon the Americans raise some local cavalry called the 1st Mongolian Cavalry, US Navy. The Americans eventually escape into China and steal a junk, having a small naval skirmish with the Japanese before getting away. Could make a rather unusual WW2 skirmish scenario and an excuse to throw in 'Back of Beyond' figures! Something out of the usual |

Yeah, I've seen, but not for many years. Richard Widmark, et al. Great action film, as I recall. Definitely agree with you, and I encourage others to look it up for a good flick, but also for inspiration for "Back of Beyond"/WWII games in decidedly off-beat theaters/locales. TVAG |

Timbo, that's interesting…I first saw it on TV (NBC's Saturday Night at the Movies, IIRC) when I was sick with a severe case of the boy-flu in 1961/62! |

The film included Imperial Japanese Army World War II-era cavalry too! Very inspirational! |
