I have posted to the blog background information about the battle and our first test game. The game actually ended in a reversal of fortune but more importantly opened the possibility of a small campaign involving the previous two engagements. Background: link The test game: link Cheers, |

Very interesting for me, I've always been a big fan of Roman history. I would agree, a short campaign might be cool. Really after he lost the first two battles and fell back into his socalled homeground I think Niger was already doomed. Of course your test game begs to differ! |

@ mghFond, The short campaign would well have an influence on the final strengths that formed up for the final battle. Severus had the majority of his force besieging Byzantium while a secondary force crossed the Sea of Marmara to seal off Byzantium from Asia Minor. The two engagements that followed in Asia Minor to forestall this Niger lost and so retreated with the rest of his army to the Cilician Gates leaving Byzantium to their own defence. During the winter period Niger raised frontier troops for the coming spring campaign, but after Egypt and key cities changed their allegiance, Niger fell back to Antioch leaving the Cilician Gate open. Developing a short campaign would require a deeper investigation to firm up dates, possible troop strength and battlefield locations. There were enough Roman Colonia in the east from which to raise new troops and the frontier garrisons facing Parthia could be recalled as it too was experiencing internal troubles. Much to do yet. @ vtsaogames, "Big Battle DBA?" Yes, indeed. All the scenarios designed for this project I try as much as possible to use the historical scale given on page 14 of the rule book. |

There is a group us in MO-IA-KS-NE who still play 2.2. We enjoy playing 2.2 and see no reason to change. |
