Any relation to Frank Chadwick's game of the same title from GDW?

Thorough review. It's helped me come to a decision about these rules.

Thanks for the review.

So, for the tactical choices in close combat, presumably being aggressive gives you a bonus to hit, and/or damage your target, but you are also more easily hit as well, and vice versa, when opting to be more defensive?

Glad to be of help !

@Mako11, Iīm not really sure about your question but I try to answer anyway and hope it is what you are looking for.

At the start of the Close Combat you pick Attack/defence counters in secret to use during the close combat, if you dont take any Attack counters you cant attack at all. During the close Combat you use the attack countes to initiate attacks and if you have several you can add them to do different ploys like a powerfull attack that might cause more dammage etc.

The defence counters you use to boost your defence when being attacked, even if you donīt have any left you will try to defend your self but you most probably will get wounded, so the defence countes are good to have to survive, and they will allow you to make defens plus to, like Ripost (parry the attack and make a counter attack)

Hope this answered the question.

Have to check the new En Garde out. Some place have my old copy of En Garde from the late 70's era too. Was a sort of role play game … join your regiment , provincial ones, the Garde, the Cardinal's, etc..with social, nobility character strengths… advance with duels and fair ladies of court.
