Very nice, Konstantinos. The Russo-Turkish War is a conflict that deserves to be wargamed more. (OK, I admit it, I just like wearing a fez.)

Tomorrow we will be fighting the 'prequel' to Plevna: the battles around Alexinatz, from the Serbo-Turkish War of 1876. The fez is ready.

How do you like the Pendraken figures? Any gaps in the line? Have you compared them with the Battle Honors 15mm line? These are the only two lines I know of covering this war. I'd be interested to hear if there are others.

O Konstantinos,
I was "born and bred in the heart of the western wilderness." My corner of it was settled in 1877, when the siege of Plevna was big news. So, we have a little farming town there, thousands of miles/kilometers from Bulgaria also called Plevna. It gives me a little bit of personal interest in the battle.

Hafen--Askari makes 28mm figures suitable for the war: link

Thanks,Greiber, they look interesting, suitable for some TSATF treatment, but I was thinking in terms of smaller scale figures. I believe Irregular make some of their 42mm figures for this period.

However, when I become King of the World, I will certainly consider doing Plevna in 25mm :)

Excellent. Thank you.

The battlefield is well worth a visit. Still many trenches there in 2002, and the main redoubtable captured by Skobeleff in Third Plevna are well preserved right next to the museum of the battle. The museum of the liberation, in town, is also well worth a visit.

The main missing elements in the Pendraken range are

1) Bulgarian volunteers

2) Ottomans in the western style uniform (you can use Egyptians as a good proxy)

3) Russian Dragoons (US ACW dragoons are a good proxy)

4) Russians and Ottoman infantry in greatcoats.

5) No Romanians at all (regular line can be proxied by Russians in kepi, but no way to proxy the levy)
