"Space Crusade is back, or should that be Boob Crusade. Prodos Games, those of Warzone Resurrection and Alien vs Predator have remade the classic 90s sci-fi board game (that we reviewed just a few weeks ago by the way) and understandably there have been some changes, but the changes are not what most people were expecting. As you may not be aware, Prodos Games have owned the rights to Space Crusade for some time, but in reality those rights are in name only. All those Space Marines, Genestealers, Orks and the Chaos Dreadnaught are very much property of Games Workshop and their Warhammer 40,000 universe so Prodos can't use those…"

The big guy looks good, and from the others I could probably glean a few useful parts, but really – and I say this as an unabashed 40K/GW fan – this is ridiculous. |
Insomniac | 07 Feb 2016 3:03 a.m. PST |
This is not the return of Space Crusade… this is a completely different game using the Space Crusade name (I guess copyright ran out on the name and Prodos snapped it up). If the miniatures were fully armoured in the same way as the existing armour, then it may have been good BUT, as it is, it is just more mysogenistic rubbish. It is a shame because the bikes, the armoured parts and the details on them are quite good… but half naked terminators? Ridiculous. |

Came across these last night there are s few nice miniatures in there. The good faction would have made very passable sisters of battle in 40k……but way to much naked flesh rather s that option. The evil faction might have some use if you need loads of half naked chaos chicks. The best thing is the big Nurgle looking daemon but even that has gratuitous boobs. |
Earl of the North | 07 Feb 2016 5:26 a.m. PST |
Well that's weird…….really its not as if they couldn't have dome a true updating, since all they would need was some powered armoured troopers and some random alien types to fight. Instead semi naked armoured ladies fighting semi naked demon ladies? |

I don't think they are allowed to run another KS because of the failure to fulfill Aliens vs. Predators even though they are selling the game to retailers. Their posts on FB and other social media get multiple responses from irate Kickstarter Subscribers who are missing games. Prodos deletes the responses as fast as they are posted. Yet, the same games are selling retail. Ponzi scheme. It's up for Pre-order…self run Kickstarter? I am curious if the pre-order is to gather cash to square away their Kickstarter…it seems like they are looking for another runaway success to keep the projects going. Like all good Ponzi schemes, the fun stops sooner or later. Buyer beware. |

They made some cool looking armor then messed it up by having the girl parts not covered. I received the box set for AVP, but am missing everything else I ordered. They seem to be doing emails every 2 months or so. |

I don't think they are allowed to run another KS because of the failure to fulfill Aliens vs. Predators even though they are selling the game to retailers Whereas I don't there is strictly no such rule, tho there is one that says that you can't run a KS project to fund another KS project. Tho who would admit to it (except Prodos who almost did IIRC) anyway? Anyway, as to this project, it's not my cuppa either but I'm a bit surprised at the vehemence of the response all the same. Can't help but think it's more than a little fuelled by Prodos being the party responsible and not by the imagery used in the game itself. link |

I've personally nothing against Prodos (never even purchased any of their products), I just find it a strange use of the Space Crusade name since it seems to have no connection to the original. |
Insomniac | 08 Feb 2016 5:34 a.m. PST |
The use of the name has certainly got the tongues wagging… so it seems that using the name has generated a lot of publicity that not using the name wouldn't. |
MarkRyan | 08 Feb 2016 5:57 a.m. PST |
tnjrp Agreed on the vehemence. A big chunk of the dislike will be the parent company. Rightly so. The hobby is small enough that if you "clip" people, expect them to be angry. The hobby is also small enough that we should watch out for each other. I think it's also using a name that has quite a bit of nostalgia and then piling it with cheesecake. |

I wasn't aware of the whole Prodos debacle until now. And I have no problem with nude or nearly nude minis, male or female. For me, the issue is nude and nearly nude minis coupled with, for example, VERY heavily armored heads and arms. They look ridiculous. |
Prince Rupert of the Rhine | 08 Feb 2016 11:27 a.m. PST |
jpattern2@ I'd go with that I'm not bothered by nudity on my miniatures if there is a reason for it but these miniatures, while nicely sculpted, are just silly. They would have had a much wider appeal as fully armoured female space marine types. |
lollerkeet | 08 Feb 2016 5:00 p.m. PST |
I'm really torn. On the one hand, anything that distresses the fainting-couch types makes me smile. On the other hand, that doesn't look like effective armour. |
Lion in the Stars | 08 Feb 2016 6:45 p.m. PST |
I wish they'd bring back Advanced Space Crusade, which was my introduction to the GW universe. Speehs Muhreen Scouts versus Bugs, Mister Rico, on bio-ships. |
MarkRyan | 10 Feb 2016 8:20 a.m. PST |
I game with biblical era miniatures; thus, like jpattern2, I have no problem with nudity on my figures, it's just the incongruous mix of pieces of armor that make it "cheesecake." Like Lion in the Stars, I too had hoped it was Space Crusade and Advanced Space Crusade. Being Prodos, I would suggest waiting to get a physical copy. Use your money in the here and now… |

These are perhaps the most awful, poorly conceived, absurdly unrealistic figures I've seen since…since the last time I visited the 'nudes and semi-nudes' board. Or watched an anime cartoon. Embarrassing that Prodos have stooped to this. |

Prodos has announced they are making a "PG13 version" for the "fainting couch types": link |

Seems an odd way of using a 'name', which probably has a mix of nostalgia and expectation attached to it for many gamer's. Not sure Prodos are as commercially savvy as they think they are….. (Also that mix of flesh and armour is a pain to paint, fully one way or the other is much easier!) |
Sargonarhes | 13 Feb 2016 11:03 a.m. PST |
For some reason a miniature game version of the PC game Scarlet Blade comes to mind. Really guys, you're just going to have to trust me on this one.
Oh man, what have I been playing lately? |
David Johansen | 14 Feb 2016 7:59 p.m. PST |
Frankly the absurdity of the figures appeals to me. They're silly and stupid and feel like a back-handed swipe at Games Workshop's no gurls attitude. I'll probably bring a set in for the store and I bet you it sells quickly. |
