Post Christmas I bit the bullet and ordered a box of Revell's 1:144 US army vehicles that originate from their landing ship kit (the sprues contain odd parts for said kit – Oerlikons and life rafts). The tank is a mere 6 pieces and goes together well with no obvious gaps – which is good because trying to apply filler on a kit this small would be a pain IMO. The M8 and GMC truck are a bit more fiddly and care needs to be taken with the axles. The body of the truck is probably the worst bit trying to assemble four sides without good locating pieces. The fit is okay, but not perfect for the hull of the M8 or the cab of the GMC. I found clipping the parts from the sprue a little fiddly, but then I probably shouldn't have used a Stanly knife.

Overall the detail isn't the best avaliable on the market, compared to say Dragon, but is plenty good enough for wargaming and the price point is pretty good. No doubt those keen enough could add extra gribbly bits. My major gripe is the inclusion of the M8 over say something more ubiquitous like a Jeep or an M3.

Comparison shot with a Millennium Toys Sherman, a Takara Firefly and a Arrowhead Universal Carrier. The British infantry are Arrowhead and the sole US infantryman is Minifigs.

Nice review.

The modern set is about the same.

No track detailing to speak of, sadly, for the armored vehicles, though they're so small, with a decent paintjob, I suspect most won't be bothered by that.

The pricing of the boxed sets is certainly attractive.

I hope they sell well, and produce more of them, since it is nice to have an affordable model option in 1/144th scale.

Glad to see someone else in this scale, which to me is the perfect compromise between micro-armor (squinty) and 15mm (just a little too big for me at the ranges of WW2 tanks and guns). I have a huge collection of tanks, trucks and guns in 1/144, and 10mm troops – all Eastern Front and mid- to late war.
