Looks like Stockholm was indeed the target of a Russian bomber exercise a few years ago, in which they were simulating a nuclear attack on the small, northern country: link Swedish jets were unable to respond in time, and asked NATO jets to intervene. A pair of Danish F-16s responded. |

Reason why Sweden is ramping miltary, preparing for war against Russia, and cozying up to NATO. Remember that Sweden is neutral, hasn't fought a war since 1814, and hasn't shown military aggression against anyone – yet the Russians felt necessary to demonstrate a nuclear attack against Stockholm… |

Oh, and this may be an excellent example of self-fulfilling prophecy: the Russians fear Sweden will join NATO, so ham-handedly threaten them…into joining NATO. |

But the Russians won both wars. Removed Sweden from being a major European power as a result. It's not as if Sweden can cede Finland back to the Russians again. |
