If memory serves, Ritter was formed very late war, April '45. Had something like 10 Panthers, supposedly with IR equipment. Some Elephant pzjg's, and some halftracks, with extra panzer crew serving as infantry. |

KGr "Ritter" was ordered to form on 22 April 1945 with the following composition: - Stab of II./PzR 36 - PzKp z.b.V. "Dreyer" (outfitted with 10 Panthers with IR equipment) - PzGKp (gep) "Uelzen" (outfitted with SPW with IR equipment) - sPzJgKp 614 (Elephants) - part of II./PzR 36 (fighting as tank-killing infantry). It was directed to enter into action at Zossen. Ritter, most probably, is the name of the commander of II./PzR 36. |

sPzJgKp 614 was formed from the 2nd company of sPzJg Abt 653 at the end of December 1944. The 12 remaining Elefants of 653 had been consolidated into the 2nd company and so 614 would have had no more than 12 when it was formed. Almost all of the Elefants were lost in combat or through mechanical breakdown following the Soviet offensive of 12 January 1945. The last 4 Elefants operated in the Konigswusterhausen, Zossen and Berlin areas where they were all lost. Most of the company's support units managed to break out of the Berlin pocket.
