I had never see a thing about this game before. Battlestations allows you to operate a starship with 28mm minis and at the same time fly a ship on a hex board. There are many missions and it looks great fun. Hits all the right spots for me. On ship combat and starship combat in space at the same time. COOL

Take a look. Ho and there are free starter rules you can download as a pdf.

I have the first edition, which was 15mm. It's a lot of fun!

I have to say that looks amusing. I wonder if I hurry and get the taxes done I could squeeze it in….

Their alien designs are also FANTASTIC.

Hopefully their 28mm crew models will be proportionally cheaper than their 15mm crew.

That's definitely true for the KS backers, looks like 28mm minis are going to be 32 for $40 USD (and I'm awfully tempted to back this one for the core game)…

There are too many great kickstarters right now.

Redroom05 Feb 2016 6:19 p.m. PST

I like the 15mm minis, these also look pretty neat

Why does a successful game company need a kick starter to do a second edition? Just curious is all.

Lfseeney10 Feb 2016 8:38 p.m. PST

Was hoping they were 15mm.

@Stogie

Simple – Gorilla Games is a very small outfit. While they've been around a while, and their products are generally good, they don't have the cash flow to afford a system relaunch the way larger orgs can.

In this case – they've been working on it for a few years and have been gathering resources for it. (I joined the playtest team a few years back) However – with the added resources from a successful kickstarter – they can afford to get the molds created to put stuff in the new relaunched edition they may not otherwise afford.

It also acts a bit like a publicity campaign, spreading word about the game to rekindle interest in it.

@Lfseeney
They WERE in 15mm – I've had a set for years. However, they never sold particularly well, and when Gorilla Games surveyed the players and asked around at conventions – players almost universally wanted the larger 28mm scale.

In this case – he's following market requests.

@LFseeney: The 1st edition 15mm game is available retail and through the KS (ships within a month) for $25. USD Shouldn't be too difficult to get it on BGG.

Hmm. Why didn't anybody tell me there's a miniatures only pledge? Ah well, still got in on it…

Moe the Great01 Mar 2016 1:25 p.m. PST

@WMINSING I read your post "Their alien designs are also FANTASTIC." And read the two words as ALIEN DUNGEON and it scared me away from this KickStarter campaign. :P

wminsing03 Mar 2016 12:42 p.m. PST

Nothing to do with Alien Dungeon, the Gorilla Games guys have been around for years.

Why didn't anybody tell me there's a miniatures only pledge?

Missed that as well; there's something called 'crowdox' that allows post-pledging at about 20% more, but no miniatures only option. *sigh*

Really, tried to get interest at the store in the retailer option, but, well, herding cats…

Can't say about that but as I understood the updates, the pledge manager should allow a bona fide pledger to add further sets of miniatures at KS price.
