Would you use 1/144 scale Helicopters instead of the 1/100 scale ones? |

I prefer the helos to match the scale of the vehicles. |

I would use 1:144 rather than 1:100 for the improved visuals … Phil |

Leave the helicopters alone, and increase the scale of aircraft to 1/100 |
Chuckaroobob | 04 Feb 2016 6:18 a.m. PST |
Since I already own some 1:144 helicopters, yes, I will be using them. |

No. The BattleFront Heresy Detection Squad will descend upon you like the wrath of titans and smite thee! |

More seriously, why do you ask? It will not affect the game in any way. Is it just the looks of it? |
Saber6 | 04 Feb 2016 7:18 a.m. PST |
Of course, for one they are cheaper. And you can get a wider variety (pretty sure you can get B52s) |

If you are going to try a different scale for the helos, then go for a big time change… 6mm |

Yes. They would look fine for aerial use. I prefer 1/100 but you will have a much larger selection in 1/144. I am still on a quest for 1/100 scale A-26 Invaders. (Hint, hint Geoff) |

Use what scale you prefer is my two cents. But being bombed by the Pink Panther (logo on B52) that way cool. Calling in the air strike could be hazardous with Jacques Clouseau at the helm for misplaced bomb load. As for the FOW BattleFront Heresy Detection Squad issue I have been playing FOW with 20mm since 2004. Won several convention show awards in the process. |

As for the FOW BattleFront Heresy Detection Squad issue I have been playing FOW with 20mm since 2004. Won several convention show awards in the process. But those weren't for playing the game, right? Those were for the static displays? I'm a bit confused since I'd assume both side would have to be playing with the same scale models? |

I plan to run 1/100 scale helos. I just wish the Aoshima Battle Rotor kits weren't OOP! |
Mako11 | 04 Feb 2016 12:56 p.m. PST |
Of course, I'll be using 1/144th with my 1/144th scale armor, so…… |
TMPWargamerabbit | 04 Feb 2016 1:08 p.m. PST |
M Tibbles. I play FOW using 20mm scale models, not 15mm. The same rules and distances per the FOW rules. The funny part there was a FOW tournament nearby with 30 or so players several years ago. I had 18 players for my German vs. Russian scenario on a 20x6 table. My D-Day Omaha beach landing similar size. With the non playing standing group around the convention table, some taking photos as the scenario progressed, I almost equaled the FOW tournament group. Recently played a smaller game scenario from the FOW books. Photo and AAR write up: link More AAR and scenario photos on the blog…. Pointe du Hoc, Sicily scenario, Several Normandy battles. |

I don't know why BF went with 1:100 for the helos while all their fixed-wings are in 1:144. This could make it look awkward when opponents use helos of different scales. |

Helos interact directly with the troops, put a 1/144 Huey next to the 3 stands of 15mm infantry it can carry by the rules and see how reasonable that looks. The reasoning BF gave for their fixed-wing aircraft was that it gave a bit of forced perspective. Most people don't have a clue how big airplanes are, even WW2 fighters. |

In game terms helos are on table units, not abstracted like air support. Having out of scale smaller kit may give a player an unfair advantage in regards to cover and open space needed to deploy troops. |

Having out of scale smaller kit may give a player unfair advantage in regards to cover and open space needed to deploy troops Makes sense. Both players should use the same scale for practical reasons, not just for visuals' sake. |

Ironic, just last night I was considering this same question after reading an AAR with great pics of the Soviet aircraft over the battlefield. I just kept thinking, for 'those' 1/144 would have a better look, 'farther up in the sky' per say. Also, as mentioned, there are a lot more 1/144 models out there than I think a lot of people realize. If both sides use the same scale Helo to Helo and Fixed Wing to Fixed Wing, I dont see a big issue there. As for the helo's themselves, 'until' / unless they have Huey's in the game, which 'would be touching down to drop troops', the Cobra's, like the fixed wings, granted much lower and slower, would be flying "high" above to battle (in relation to the height of a grunt on the ground). On a side observation; What are everyones thoughts on the rotor blades for the Helo's? Do you think they would look better With Or WithOut them attached to the models? Recalling my micro armor 'Nam Hueys which came with the 'ridged' clear plastic 'disk' (i.e. the spinning rotors) it really added a great look to the miniature. |
