"Four months after launching airstrikes in Syria, the Kremlin is confident that Moscow's largest overseas campaign since the end of the Soviet Union is paying off. Under the banner of fighting international terrorism, President Vladimir Putin has reversed the fortunes of forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which were rapidly losing ground last year to moderate and Islamist rebel forces in the country's five-year-old crisis. Government forces are now on the offensive, and last week, they scored their most significant victory yet, seizing the strategic town of Sheikh Miskeen from rebels who are backed by a U.S.-led coalition. According to analysts and officials here, the Russian government believes it has won those dividends at a relatively low cost to the country's budget, with minimal loss of soldiers' lives and with largely supportive public opinion…." I hope so … the sooner that conflict is over the better. Realizing that : 1) The Russians want Assad to stay in power so the West will have to accept it. As bad as Assad is, as we saw in Iraq and Libya. Saddam and Gaddafi were the lesser evils compared to Daesh … 2) Daesh in Syria will have to be eliminated, every man and women. No prisoners. With the Daesh center of gravity being in Raqqa, Syria. Once that has fallen, Deash should be less effective, worldwide. But the Daesh hunt worldwide will have to continue. Aggressively and ruthlessly, no compromises … Hopefully with Deash's capital gone in Syria and their looses mount. Mostly due to the Russian support of Assad. The Iraqis and their Persian support might be able to clear the remaining Deash out of Iraq. But based on their performance so far. I'd give it 50/50 … |

Russia's only goal is to keep Assad afloat and to maintain the status quo. They're fighting for a stalemate at best. |
