It appears that the MHZ network is showing this French series, set in the time of Louis XV,once again. No battles, but interesting. 9PM. Don't know enough to identify which season. |

Book even better though in English a lot would be lost. But why, why did they not manage to put their Gardes du corps,on horse instead of mounting, from times to tile some Gardes Françaises… Any one has the recipes in English for my best half? |

Yes,I noticed the mounted Gardes Francaises last night (sorry, haven't figured out how to do a cedille on my phone). My French is not good enough to catch more than un peu d'argot--"J'ai les mouches",for example. And,from some of the Amazon reviews,it appears much is lost in the English book translations. A lot depends on the translator. "Important" books get the best and most creative translators. And I understand there's much more food in the books. Is there more military action,or at least soldiering,in the books? Easier to do in print than film! |

Not much fighting. It is not the kind of story. The writer is a bit optimistic with the capabilities of period firearms. I did not see all the films, but I think they have more sword fights than the books.

Geez, I'm embarrassed by my errors again. While checking this for something else,I noticed it should have been "J'ai mes mouches",which is,I gather, the equivalent of something like "A little bird told me". Ah,the French…we say "splitting hairs",they say "enculer les mouches". Such a colorful language. I see also that Bill corrected my spelling of "Floch" in the title, rendering my own correction superfluous."Nicholas" is still there, instead of "Nicolas",but that was Autocorrect's doing. |
