I googled the historical personality and found out about a really interesting event from The Civil War period. I admit I have never heard of it before.

I wasn't aware of it either until recently. I was going through some stuff at my dad's house a couple of days ago and saw that he had a book (the book?) on the subject.

How strange, the paperback costs more than the hardcover.

I first heard about it in Ken Burns' 'The Civil War'

Parts of the movie are being/were filmed on location here in Mississippi (Jones County), including scenes filmed in Newt Knight's home, which is still standing.

Tells a rather unknown (outside Mississippi and the deep South, that is) story about a part of the Civil War that is not well understood – the "resistance" to the Confederacy by either pro-Unionists or "neutrals" to secession and the war.

I believe there was a similar issue in NW Alabama which ended in the creation of the 1st Alabama US Cavalry.

I read the book. I'm looking forward to the movie.
