I've noticed, even quite recently, a disinclination to use the "L" word.

In wargames, if you don't win are you the runner-up? Did you come second? Or did you just 'fail to win"?

Or can you take your lumps & declare, "I'm a loser"?

RavenscraftCybernetics02 Feb 2016 2:25 p.m. PST

as Pete Puma would say, "gimme a whole lotta lumps!".

You know you are a "not-a-winner" when you receive a Participation Award.

Cold War era joke:
Pravda reporting on a race between an American car and a Soviet car. It seems the Soviet car came in second and the American car came in next to last.

Only Losers would Deign to reply to this question. O wait :-(

The single most requested scenario that I run is one in which victory means "I died last!"

Given that mostly I play with myself, I am both winner and loser; given that, it is always a happy ending ;-)

punkrabbitt: you're not the messiah but definitely a naughty boy.

I have received awards at gaming conventions for "Worst Decision by a General" (The 'Prince of Orange' award at the KISR DBN Waterloo weekend), & the "Le Derrière Du Chat" award (as opposed to the 'Couer de Leon') for coming dead last at Foundry's 'Lion Rampant' day.

As far as I'm concerned, that makes me an Award Winning General.

Award Winning Generals need not concern themselves with the opinions of those who are not Award Winning Generals.

Excellent! Not heard that one!!

Losers and winners?

Who cares? Did you have fun?!

I had a boss when I was his G3 his favorite expression was "Second place is just first loser."

I added a bit and "In a dog race, you are either the lead dog or you have the same view as the last dog." (for those who have not yet had their morning coffee- all dogs but the first look at the butt of another dog)

So to me I don't care what you call it the view is the same.

As for a wargame, just glad to be playing be it win or lose.
