I am not very knowledgeable about the Mongols and am building a force for the 1241 Liegnitz campaign. My question is will the Huns from Khurasan work if I want to mix some of them in with my other lines to add variety? I am especially talking about the light cav figs. Thanks – Allen |

To me, a Steppes light cavalryman is a Steppes light cavalryman. Visual differences are anything but pinned down. All miniatures lines depicting various Turks, Pechenegs, Cumans, Avars, Patzinaks, Mongols, Tatars (same thing, really), are out to create a unique look for each line of miniatures. Mongols have this standardized (according to consensus) appearance. Osprey has solidified that look for wargamers. But the Mongol element was only part of a typical Mongol army. Subjected, allied, confederate troops all contributed manpower. There wasn't some uniform that said "Mongol" that was passed around to the new troops; they came with what they had. The only uniformity was in the equipment. And as I said, it is all basically the same for all Steppes armies: a composite bow (usually two), javelins, lance, lasso, targ, sword, other side arms of choice, and a bunch of horses per man…. |

Depends how picky you are. The lack of stirrups is easy to overlook. The position of the bowcase doesn't seem to fit 13th century types. Swords would be curved. The helmet could just about pass but I wouldn't use the armoured figures. |
