"South Korea warned away a pair of Chinese military aircraft over the weekend, according to the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Tuesday. The planes flew close to Jeju Island Sunday before retreating -- South Korea's military took "necessary surveillance and tactical measures", according to a JCS spokesperson. The South's air defense identification zone overlaps with that of China, adding further tension to an incident that came as Seoul and Beijing have failed to agree on an appropriate response to North Korea's claimed hydrogen bomb test at the start of the year…." What kind of aircraft?! J-7's, J-8's, J-10's, J-11's, JH-7's? None of the above? I have a need to know! I don't think it's the one in the picture used by the article since the PLAAF has no MiG-27's that I'm aware of. |

Hmmmm, why would they do that? It seemed that the ROK's new President was working on closer ties to China. Prying the Koreans away from the US axis would be a huge diplomatic and strategic coup, even if it takes decades. Seems foolish to act provocatively against them. |
