Wow! The Germans of course thoroughly wrecked the port but the allies did an amazing job putting it back into service.

I remember reading about how well the Germans were at damaging & destroying facilities in the port. With the length of time between the invasion and the actual capture of the port area, the Germans had quite a bit of time to complete their demolitions.

Once liberated, the US and allies did quite a job of repairing and rebuilding and general modernizing. As pictured in the diorama, there were several roll-on/roll-off piers constructed to allow for rail movement directly to and from the ships.
