Are you consistently involved in the hobby, or do you drift away and come back repeatedly like a butterfly?

Mute Bystander01 Feb 2016 4:33 p.m. PST

Since I discovered toy soldiers in… the dim past.

JimDuncanUK01 Feb 2016 4:47 p.m. PST

Nope, even on a bad day I do something.

The only time I get nothing done is when I'm on vacation. Even then I take something relevant to read.

What about being a butterfly WITHIN the hobby, flitting from project or period to another?

Old Contemptibles01 Feb 2016 4:49 p.m. PST

Always involved.

lugal hdan01 Feb 2016 4:57 p.m. PST

Drift in and out.

Involved, consistently.

pmwalt01 Feb 2016 5:31 p.m. PST

Drift in … drift out … depends on weather, work and other hobbies (blame too much work)

I've had a few years on occasions that I was virtually out of gaming – and I'm less "hardcore" (if I can use that term without sounding risible) about gaming (especially painting) than at some periods of my life. I'd like to game a bit more, and do more hobby writing and painting – but I'm too busy at the moment with another hobby that I really enjoy.

The Beast Rampant01 Feb 2016 6:37 p.m. PST

Oh, I thought you meant it in the sense of "flit from project to project in a carefree, unproductive manner". To which I would respond, "Zardoz".

Dynaman878901 Feb 2016 7:26 p.m. PST

I drift between minis, computer, and board games. ALWAYS some kind of wargame though.

rustymusket01 Feb 2016 7:34 p.m. PST

I have not gamed in a decade but I am always reading military history and much of the time figuring what I would enjoy gaming.

Constant since 1968.

vdal181201 Feb 2016 9:34 p.m. PST

Always involved. Have been since 1983.

Cyrus the Great01 Feb 2016 10:38 p.m. PST

Constantly involved since 1967.

Firefly rather than a butterfly.

Timmo uk02 Feb 2016 12:17 a.m. PST

I had an eight year break but other than that all in. I do a lot less in the summer as I'd rather be outside.

Patrick R02 Feb 2016 2:50 a.m. PST

I'm in most of the time, but inside I'm – OOOH SHINY -

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP02 Feb 2016 2:55 a.m. PST

I am a fly…caught in amber!

Green Tiger02 Feb 2016 4:13 a.m. PST

I believe this was my phrase originally and I intended it to mean one who flits form subject to subject – which I do but I don't flit in and out of the hobby and I doubt many do…

Yesthatphil02 Feb 2016 6:27 a.m. PST

Committed

Phil
(in for the duration but also very consistent with the periods and genres … add new ones but abandon very little)

kallman02 Feb 2016 8:22 a.m. PST

Yes more of a project butterfly than a war gaming butterfly. I have sought over the past four years to cull down the collection and find those things I really want to focus on. It is amazing how difficult that has been to do as there is so many excellent miniatures and more periods and genres are available then ever before.

Bismarck02 Feb 2016 9:39 a.m. PST

the only times I have drifted away have been due to health issues either mine or the mrs. Even then, I follow TMP and my various groups daily or as often as I can.,

ACWBill02 Feb 2016 10:56 a.m. PST

No drifting here, I am committed to my hobby.

waaslandwarrior02 Feb 2016 11:58 a.m. PST

I had a break from our hobby when I was 19. Came back when I was 27, and never stopped from there (now 50).

I do drift between different and never ending projects though. I can't keep focus on a project for more than a few months max.

More of a horsefly than a butterfly, restlessly roving, constantly searching for another juicy…find.

vtsaogames03 Feb 2016 7:09 a.m. PST

Drifted away in the late 60's upon discovering girls and again in the late 90's for similar reasons. That's all in over 50 years.

TMPWargamerabbit03 Feb 2016 11:40 a.m. PST

Still awaiting my parole hearing for life "of gaming" sentence. Caught redhanded with the d6 again by the warden.

Howler03 Feb 2016 9:57 p.m. PST

Seriously considered selling everything…but then came x-wing
