Is there a manufacturer that makes them? I understand they were extremely dis-inclined to fight on foot but it must have happened occasionally.

Actually it was not unusual for Gensdarmes to join the ranks, from Maximilian at Guinegate (not sure wether by design or wether he was forced to dismount, but it worked) up to the French Gensdarmes who joined the Swiss at Bicocca, or the Black Band at Pavia to fight and die there. I assume that these were mainly those given command of a unit, though. I have not heard of a unit of Gensdarmes to fight willingly on foot (outside of sieges or defending fortifications) – it probably did not make more sense then letting tank crews in modern warfare fight as infantry.

That said: no. No miniatures for post 1500 Gensdarmes that I am aware of.

Would WOR dismounted knights do in a pinch?

I think so. I would have to scrounge appropriate heads though.

Looks like the thing,VT. I'm amazed there are people who can afford to commission private sculpts!

If you are not picky about using WotR, the Perry box with dismounted knights offers you a good starting set. With greenstuff and selective usage you might even get Gensdarmes – a term that of course covers well over 100 years of heavy armoured cavalry with all the differences this entails.

Those look greay but I don't get the impression they are for sale, and if they are I didn't see how they could be ordered or contact information.

The dwarfs and halflings of this line (WK White Knight) are now for sale by TAG. Hopefully he will also cover the other stuff.
