Lately I've become interested in games using 6mm miniatures for company to division level games. Has anyone spent time gaming the SCW at a company to division level? If so what were your thoughts about it? Fun? Different that WW2? More of the same, just different colors and flags? Rather watch grass grow?

I was in a CD Campaign based on Guadalajara. Kind of WW-1.5 Just enough Armor and Armored cars to be interesting but really an infantry fight. as it was CD each stand was a platoon. We had some battles with multiple regiments on a side.

We did a tiny bit. It's fun. Crap tanks, armoured cars, lots of foot soldiers.

It helps massively if you research the different factions and formations a little bit, to add some character.

These are really two different things. For brigade sized SCW I mainly use my AK47 variant with battalion sized manoeuvre units.

For division and up I use operational rules like Megablitz.

For operational games you need to pick your scenarios carefully or it can just be WW1.

Both are fun, as is any war where you have cavalry and tanks operating together:)

For me it is at brigade plus that SCW comes into it's own. It is at that level the differences in politics can be reflected. A Nationalist brigade with 6 battalion can have Moors SFL Carlists, as well as Peninsular army.

Yes, I think the sweet spot for SCW is brigade level, had more fun doing that than any other.

At company level or less it is just another skirmish game.

How do the differences manifest other than experience, morale, and command and control?

gunnerphil02 Feb 2016 9:07 a.m. PST

With Republicans Anarchist not keen on obeying Communist orders, and did not play well with Guardia Civil. POUM not liked by Communists. Communist support withheld from non communist units

With Nationalist Carlists and Royalist units not keen on working with each other. CTV no one wanted to work with them.

It depends on what rules you are using. Vanilla WW2 rules would not reflect that. So need to use ones that do.

Any rules suggestions?

I started of with " Triumph of the Will" the TFL rules. I then moved to achopped and hacked version of Spearhead to reflect the politics.

If you want I can send a copy, feel free to take bits from them.
