Have you ever traveled outside of your home country to attend a miniature wargaming convention/event? (a) Yes (feel free to share your experiences and whether it was worth it) (b) No, but I'm considering it. (c) No. I'm not interested. |

I was in the Netherlands and attended a convention. Wasn't worth. Felt ignored for the entire event. |

Operation Team Spirit 1986. One to one scale in the Republic of Korea. I participated in four Reforger exercises. But I was already in country for those… It was entirely too cold. The hours were horrendous. The pay was low. And let's not even get into the feeding arrangements. Oh, and the accommodations… Have you ever tried sleeping in a tank? |

Yup. 1987(?) one of the first "Worlds" at Derby. I flew from NZ to UK for that, and a family holiday. |

(a) … many … (South Africa, USA, Australia, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, … ) … Well worth the cost and time – wargamers are generally so welcoming and hospitable (I just hope we are as welcoming to visitors as they are to us when we travel) … Phil Ancients on the Move |

Yes, but not for minis. For a couple of years, I went to Winterpeg for the Canadian ASL Open from Chicago. |

Due to commitments, I barely get across the state line to Collinsville, IL, (less than 25 miles from house) annually or the several times a year to Granite City, IL, (20 miles) so travel internationally? No way. |

Several RPG Conventions in Germany, Britain, and Canada. Always felt welcome. I think the Germans are quite the warmest of the three nations I've been to. And, as a Californian, I sometimes count Indianapolis (GenCon) as "Foreign", though not as foreign as some other US cities I've been to… |

Yes, many a time, in fact I'm driving south this weekend to another country called England. It's an hour driving to the border then another 3 hours to get there. :) I've done this journey several times. I've also flown over to Ireland to attend a wargames show in Dublin as well as several times to Amsterdam/Delft in the Netherlands and also to Brussels/Antwerp in Belgium. To answer the original question my answer would be (a) and I've always had a great time particularly in Antwerp at a little show called Crisis, great show, wonderful guys, fantastic beer. |

Cangames in Ottawa. The weekend of the (failed) Quebec secession vote. Very tense atmosphere. Also, since I went as a dealer and had gotten bad advice from the Canadian Consulate in Minneapolis, the border crossing was … interesting. The convention was held on the campus of the University of Ottawa – which is a francophone institution. The cafeteria personnel were being snotty and pretending not to speak English. Frank Chadwick countered by speaking German and claiming that their "English" was incomprehensible and asking if they could speak French! |

I've never traveled specifically to attend a show outside the U.S., but I have attended several in the U.K. and 1 on the continent. All of them were worth it, but especially the South London Warlords show at the Winter Gardens in Margate. |

Went to Fall In in 2007 and had a great time, including unexpectedly putting on a CY6 jets test game at 10 pm on the Saturday night with some models I'd brought over to show off! Had a great time at the show and visiting various battlefields in the area in my hired Mustang, perfect holiday. |

I've attended a couple of Mark Campbell's excellent and very large "Close Action" games in Washington (50+ players), although I was in town on work trips so not dedicated visits. I've travelled to the Netherlands in 1997 to take part in a refight of the battle of Camperdown, and a couple of years ago I travelled to Prague to take part in the Wings of Glory games weekend that has become a regular event in that lovely city. All being well I'm off to Vis in July for the 150th anniversary refight of the ironclad naval battle (and we'll probably do the 1811 one as well) |

South London Warlords show at the Winter Gardens in Margate. Gosh Cyrus you have a long memory! We only did three and the last was almost three and a half decades ago! Yes: Crisis in Antwerp. Great show, lovely people. John T |

I always tried to time my frequent trips to coincide with a show. I have been to Salute and the SWLWG shows in London as well as shows in Reading, Newark, Leeds and Derby |
Cyrus the Great | 01 Feb 2016 10:56 p.m. PST |
@John Treadaway, After hours the gaming continued at a hotel basement with a bar owned, if memory serves me right, by the father of the presidents wife. The president at the time was Will Powell(?). I was playing a new game called "Source of the Nile". |

Yes countless times over the years to England ( usually Colours, SELWG, Salute). Mostly good. Couple of times to Belgium. Specifically to game cons. Also gone to Historicon but wrapped it with tourism around. |
tomrommel1 | 02 Feb 2016 8:33 a.m. PST |
Yes Salute London and Crisis Antwerp! In my opinion the best shows in Europe well worth a visit. Will go to Tactica in Hamburg this year ( wich for me is not abroad so doesn't count here) |
Andoreth | 02 Feb 2016 8:48 a.m. PST |
Yes, I have been to Crisis in Belgium a number of times and once to Paris. I would like to get to one of the shows in Malaga but so far I've always found the dates clash with something else. |

Well while in the USAF stationed in Germany in the 90s my son and I went to a convention held on a British base. I remember we played a WWII game against a German officer and his son. Had a blast. |

Yes. My wife and I were invited by Emanuelle Oriano and his game club to be Guests of Honor at Padcon in Padua, Italy in 1993. Our hosts were the most amazingly gracious and entertaining group pf gamers I have ever had the peasure to meet, and the gaming overall was terrific. I'm really hoping to get to more conventions in Europe after we retire. |
