Toby Barrett from Thoroughbred sent me a couple of pics of his 1/1200 American Civil War range. The pics can be seen on my blog:

Very nice!

Look like they'd fit in very nicely with Rod Langton's 1/1200s.

I have placed my first order (seven Cairo class) and will take a few detailed pics once I receive them. Going off of Toby's 1/600 efforts, I am sure these 1/1200 castings will be excellent!

Those are quite nice!

I think Matt still has two 1/1200 models of Kearsarge and Alabama and I've got a couple of the Titan Miniatures monitors and casemate ironclads. But none are as crisp as what you see in the pictures.

Crap crap crap. Now I need to add another scale to my ironclads. I'm not happy.

I already have a ton of Toby's 1/600 offerings, but these are very tempting for the same reasons as G Dog's-- limited space in my shoebox-sized condo. I'll give it more consideration once Toby adds a few more ships, especially generic wooden gunboats and double enders.

If he adds the CSS Manassas, I'm probably all in. No ACW naval collection is complete without that little brute. And like Private Matter, I'm not happy about this new development.

I have about a dozen of the Titan ships…MUCH cheaper alternative to the nice range from Langton. I'll have to see how they scale with Thoroughbred, but if Toby keeps coming out with brown water ships that is the path I am going to go.

I've been giving this a lot of thought. When the range expands I will get vessels to build fleets for naval actions along the Carolina coasts. This will mean building the mosquito fleet as well as blockade runners and blockaders

I have several old 1/1200 Houston's Ships. Quite crude compared to Thoroughbred's new models.

This is mainly for my own info,,,,,,but has anyone here used any of the Sails of Glory Napoleonic 1/1000 vessels for 1/1200 play? I know the scales are notedly different, but I saw some of these this weekend at the Williamsburg Muster in a two for one sale and some of the smaller frigates and single decked sloops/corvettes may be near appropriate for some ACW sailers like Cumberland, Congress, merchantmen etc. Has anyone done a scaling study of these already, found any by name that might be compatible or very near compatible and who can offer some ideas?

As I noted in another post, I just received an order of 1/1200 ACW vessels from Stone Mountain (which, I believe, are the old Houston's Ships). I was expecting rough versions, but was quite surprised to find very solid models. Not Langton, but perfectly adequate, especially considering the price.

Private Matter09 Feb 2016 9:34 a.m. PST

I've decided that I'm going to stick with my 1/600 for both river and coastal actions. But, I'm going to slowly build up 1/1200 for both for larger actions.
