Hi all

Well its that time of the new year already. Time to start a new pledge to try and dent the lead mountain pile.

Well this year I have decided that I am not setting a goal as such but am going to concentrate on just painting the projects I have as I have plenty of variety to keep me from getting bored (though there will be at least 1 new project started this year).

With this in mind I have sorted out the ready locker into a few projects and will replenish it when I empty a drawer of figures (currently has 1101 figs in it – and I havent counted the boxes on the shelves yet!!!!)

January figures
BOUGHT = 0 (YEAH great start)

PAINTED
6mm = 96 (mahdists)
28mm = 7 (WWII and 1 pulp figure)

Monthly profit = +103

So a great start to the new year if I keep this rate up I'll empty the ready locker by Christmas!!!!

Next month of course sees the start of the show season in the UK and I will be attending 2 of them so be prepared for the minus column to get numbers added to it.

Time for a fresh start indeed. Last year I was keeping up, just barely behind, when suddenly in December I overindulged in a sale at The War Store, Alien Dungeon (RIP), some Kickstarter stuff arrived, and I bought an unpainted army off a fellow TMPer. This year I'll see if I can be ahead going into the holidays. I even passed up a couple of sales this month.

Also of note, I found I have 22 separate projects of various sizes on my painting table. This is too much, so I'm also trying to get it down to less than 10 projects. That way I can find the surface of the table and have lots of room to work, but still have a nice variety of stuff with which to indulge my painting ADD impules. Think that's a lot of stuff? A number of years ago I found that I was able to work in an area about the size of a credit card, and realized after an inventory that I had 56 separate projects going on! 22 is a bit much, but it's nothing like that!

Ahem. How is the Pledge going this year? Rather well actually.

Bought: 3 figures from Ironclad minis in Britain. 2 steam tanks and a submarine. I've wanted the sub for years, and it was time to get it!

Painted:
80 20mm NVA infantry (count as 1/2 a figure for the pledge)
12 28mm Soviet infantry
17 28mm SAGA Jomsvikings

Net: +66 for the month/year.

I'm on a roll, getting off midnight shift, with 2 projects finished, the Jomsvikings two days away from being done, and a couple more things in progress. On the down side, Zombiesmith is having a sale, and I'm a sucker for anything he puts out. We'll see how February goes.

Cosmic Reset31 Jan 2016 6:13 p.m. PST

Similar to last year, I am off to a good start, and though I have a list of almost 400 figs to buy, so far I haven't received anything new. So here are the numbers:

Painted: 156
146x 15mm WWII Germans
1x 28mm Ork truck/APC
6x 15mm Ostriches
3x 15mm M41 light tanks

Received: 0

February won't be as good (don't have another German army to paint), but hopefully I can keep it going.

Chgowiz31 Jan 2016 6:47 p.m. PST

Well, fellow mountain painters, with the December of Ral Partha behind me with adding all those wonderful Chaos War minis to the pile, I decided to get back to it.

Started the year/month with: 415

Bought/Received: 10 (Ral Partha making good on a couple of minor issues from the Kickstarter, and two Thri-Kreen for the 1x1 D&D solo campaign with my wife)

Painted: 16
Battletech Plastic Minis (1990s): 3
Battletech Vehicles: 2
Various 25mm D&D PC/NPC figures: 5
Various 25mm D&D Monsters: 6

Net: +6

I also did some extra projects that took a bit of time away, finishing trays for playing One Hour Wargames, finishing my "DIY Sabol carrier" and starting on 20 15mm Orcs. So February is looking good, especially since I've got no purchase needs on the horizon (and the next Ral Partha Kickstarter isn't until April, woohoo!)

Well it's a new year and hopefully a better ending. I am really thinking about what I can actually achieve in my gaming and I am starting to go through things and figure out what I really want to do. Thus some projects will probably get sold or traded off. I did not lift a brush at all this month. I was sick the first week of this month and never got going after that. I did manage to base 350+ 15mm SYW Prussian I had gotten from the painter last year, so it was not a total loss. Got a ton of flocking to do now. I have managed to suppress my irrational purchases so far and I will attempt to keep to projects I have going. So here is the total for the month.

Bought

49 – 15mm MAW Americans

Painted

0

YTD

-49

Who asked this joker31 Jan 2016 7:17 p.m. PST

6mm. Painting and rebasing etc. Probably more than 100 plus 10 tanks.

IronMike31 Jan 2016 9:10 p.m. PST

Okay, good but not great a start for the year:

Figures bought: 6
Figures painted: 2
The score thus far: -4

After a dismal finish to last year this year is looking up. The counter has been reset to zero and the figures I had started in November are now ready for the table. However just under the wire a package showed up from England and the unpainted count was bumped up. I don't see any new projects popping up or at least not ones I don't have figures for already.

So we have.
Bought – 17 Shaolin Monks(3) Little Britons(14)

Painted – 41 Little Britons(14) LOTR(1) Frostgrave(7) Warring States Chinese(19)

ViscountEric31 Jan 2016 9:39 p.m. PST

Lots of stuff in the pipeline that got blockpainted, based, etc. It's just the matter of finishing them, but I'm restocked on painting supplies, so most of the traditional excuses are out the window. Let's set the full queue at the last calculation of 542.

PAINTED: 21
An eclectic collection of giant spiders, old Grenadier Fantasy, some Pulp Figures, and the mother of all palm tree projects bearing some fruit

BOUGHT: 19
Four Reaper Bones figures, The Pulp Figure Movember figs from the last three years of Movember promotions, and worst of all, another 12 pieces of jungle/palm tree terrain were discovered that hadn't been inventoried.

ytd: -2

GypsyComet31 Jan 2016 11:01 p.m. PST

January 2016 total:

Bought 4 (Two old GW Wood Elf Wardancers and a pair of Reaper Slimes)
Painted 3 (the two Reaper slimes, and the Reaper Hippo Golem)

Year-to-date totals:
Growth +4
Painted +3

As my Pledge goal is to paint half of what I buy, I'm off to a… start.

My pledge for 2016

BUY NO MORE MINIATURES -2015 was a little embarrassing on the lead accumulation front (not to mention the plastic)

Well, maybe except for really good deals and …..

Didn't last until the end of January – but it was only 4 28mm figures and they are really awesome !!!!! From now onwards NO NEW MINIATURES

January painted
- 24 15mm Napoleonic

2016 Goals
NO BUYING NEW FIGURES (I need to keep writing it) -4
28mm: 100
15mm: 24/200
10mm: 100
Scenery: 12 items

Good luck to you all and stick to it :)

John

Cosmic Reset01 Feb 2016 5:48 a.m. PST

jwebster, Why do I get the feeling we might be hearing, "From now onwards NO NEW MINIATURES" about once per month??

Best of luck on reaching your goals.

waaslandwarrior01 Feb 2016 12:04 p.m. PST

Not a great start at all.
I didn't buy anything (yet…), but hardly painted anything either!

Bought: 0
Painted: 11 (28mm figs)

My aim was (is?) to paint 25 figs a month.

RobBrennan01 Feb 2016 12:38 p.m. PST

Like many I am looking at depleting my lead mountain and especially finishing off some of the many projects on my painting desk.

A good start as I have been painting some 1/3000 naval that I snuck in as a 2015 purchase.

Bought = 0
Painted = 45 x ww2 1/3000 naval

Just about 20 more of them on the painting desk and I will be done with that whole order. Then the challenge will be to finish something else off.

No fear of cleaning out the lead pile totally in 2016…would be happy with just clearing the project backlog.

No, I really am going to stick to it (note I am not including kickstarter miniatures paid for last year :) )

I really will stick ….

Oh no – a cool book/magazine with 2 free figures if I pre-order. I might just have to ….. Well at least I'm agonizing, last year I would have just hit the button :)

Best of luck all

So far bought 30 – 15 of which are undecorated.

Perry Vichy Senegalese as above minus the 75s.

Amazing what you can do when you are unemployable!

epturner01 Feb 2016 5:51 p.m. PST

Well, 2016 started off okay… but it's not going as well as planned. I did manage to finish five books, though…

Bought: 0

Painted: 22 x 25mm Perry AWI

Grelber01 Feb 2016 8:36 p.m. PST

Off to an unusual start. I bought 59 figures (25 were from The Warstore's Black Friday sale, and arrived in January), and painted 3 humans and a horse. However, 12 of the figures I bought were at an auction, and were already painted. Then, too, I sold off 136 figures here on TMP. I think I'm ahead, for the time being.

Painted: one mounted Irish warlord for Saga
2 pulp era figures
A bunch of other figures are almost done, and I hope to finish the in the next few weeks.

I held the purchases down this month and finally finished my Cataphract units. Not as much as I had planned but at least it's positive.

Bought: 17
Painted: 32

Dagwood03 Feb 2016 1:10 p.m. PST

A boring January,

Figures bought 0
Figures completed 0

The good news is that February got off to a flying start with 18 Romans finished (so far). The bad news is that I am about to order about 30 figures ….

DOUGKL05 Feb 2016 11:59 p.m. PST

In 2014 I started to focus on a primary project with some small side projects for a change of pace from time to time.
I started that plan in mid year so it was barely on the plus side at the end. In 2015 I finished by painting 315 more figures than I bought.
So to start 2016
0 figures bought
painted
17 15mm Cossacks
18 15mm Gauls
63 10mm ACW figures
Total 98 painted
If I can keep this up I will shatter 2015 which was by best year for reducing the lead pile. Time will tell. Cold Wars?
