I'm looking for a boardgame for WW3 in Europe. Classically WARPAC vs Nato. Something more tactical, not strategic. So counters are platoons or companies. Ideally something with lots of scenarios included. |

Mechwar '77 by SPI was fun. I think it was platoon based. Look for games by SPI, from back in the Cold War period, which was the heyday of boardgames. MBT (I think that is the name), by GMT Games is doing a rerelease, and/or upgrade of their boardgames for the Cold War, but it looks very expensive, and you need to buy one or two additional, expensive supplements for additional nations. Ran across that accidentally a while back, for their drive to get several hundred buyers committed to their new project. Looks like it is individual vehicles and squads: gmtgames.com/p-478-mbt.aspx |

The SPI Wurzburg game is also pretty good. No stacking. DM |

Team Yankee by GMT. OOP but available on eBay. A simple quick play tactical game. You command a tank platoon. Some do not like it but I enjoyed it. You could easily play with miniatures rather than the counters. Scenarios are very similar to your post TMP link link |

I have to agree with Don … the World at War series is great and it is in print. I played the Assault series a lot back in the 80s, and it was OK. However, it may be hard to get now. Mark |

Yes, agree with the Assault series. Had the Boots and Saddles supplement, played it into the ground. Also, you might want to take a look at MBT from Avalon Hill. Very tactical and chock full of stats and charts like most tactical games from the 1980s. It was the game that got me into miniatures as they had a small conversion for the tabletop in the back of the rules. Bought some GHQ models, Geohex and never looked back! |

Assault Series, lots of options and information. Plays well, the C2 rules are important. With all the modules you have everything you need. |

Well they want $20 USD for an empty Assault game box. And $350 USD for the set of 4 games. I think I'll look at Lock n Load… |

Another vote for the Assault Series. It requires a bit of book keeping, but it is well worth it. Superior game to Lock n Load. Depends on where you want to buy, I bought an unpunched copy of both Assault and Boots & Saddles for $30.00 USD from a local used game shop last fall. Boardgamegeek or Consim might be worth watching for a copy. |

There is always NATO Division Commander. Our group in the day played a double blind games and it was a blast. Mike |

And for an actual strategic game, NATO by Victory Games. For a more tactical game, I second all the recommendations for Assault, played it tons back in the 80s. |
