My first novel is being released in paperback later this month, and my publisher Orbit is running a giveaway competition on Goodreads! link ARTEFACT is book one of THE LAZARUS WAR, a science fiction military adventure. Here's a rundown of the plot: "Captain Conrad Harris has died two hundred and eighteen times – and he has felt every death… "In the 23rd century, mankind has spread out into the stars, only to find itself locked in eternal warfare with the insidious Krell. On the farthest edges of known space, a stalemate has been hard won, and a Quarantine Zone is being policed by the only people able to contain the Krell menace: the brave soldiers of the Simulant Operation Programme, an elite military team who remotely operate bioengineered avatars in the most dangerous theatres of war. "Captain Conrad Harris is a veteran of the Sim Ops Programme, a man who has died hundreds of times running suicide missions inside his simulants. Known as Lazarus, Harris is a man addicted to death, and driven by the memory of a lover lost to the Krell many years before. So when a secret research station deep in the Quarantine Zone suddenly goes dark, there is no other man who could possibly lead a rescue mission. "Yet, on arrival at Helios Station, all is not as it seems. Ambushed by a Krell patrol, Harris and his team find themselves stranded planet-side, their simulants destroyed. Far from home, and surrounded by enemies on every side, Harris must find answers to a very real question: how does a man inured to the idea of dying, face up to the prospect of a real, unsimulated death?" The book is out on 25th February 2016 – for your chance to enter the competition check out here: t.co/p9kaHDnOSa You can find out more about my book (and the rest of THE LAZARUS WAR series) on jamiesawyer.com |

Wow! Congratulations! The only problem I have is that it is only available in the UK. :( |

I wish you all the best with the book. From the bottom of my heart. May you make money enough so you can focus more time on your writing. You don't mind me asking, how long did it take you to write it? Was it something that you delayed and prolonged for years or you wrote it in 'one long seating'? |

@79thPA – thanks very much! @Tony S – I should've mentioned that! Yes, the giveaway is GB and Ireland only. But the book is on ebook and paperback in the US, and it has the same release date. @nevals – thanks as well. Writing is a labour of love unless you're the next JK Rowlings! More than happy to talk about the process. I wrote ARTEFACT over a 12-18 months, and kept tinkering with it until for almost as long… Then I got an agent, and once I signed up with Orbit things moved much faster. The follow-up LEGION was written in about 6 months. It's amazing how fast you can write if you are focused and have a deadline! |

So , almost 3 years for the first book, and only 6 months for the next one! I guess with Legion it was bit easier considering all the trial and error and the experience you got through while working on Artefact. This is great. I'm in Canada. I checked our local bookstore chain Indigo/Chapters online. Your book, Artefact, is not yet in stores but is available online. Also are Legion and Redemption. And there is a German version? |
Gorman | 01 Feb 2016 12:41 a.m. PST |
Yes, there is a German and also a Czech version. I was really excited about that. I think that ARTEFACT should be appearing in book shops shortly before 25th Feb, but Amazon is probably your best bet (the ebook version is actually on a deal at the moment). The sequel LEGION and novella REDEMPTION are also in ebook, and the last book ORIGINS is coming out in August. Trial and error is definitely the thing to it. When you're writing by yourself, you can just endlessly make revisions and I'm not convinced that's a good thing. Knowing where you're going, and the timescale to get through things, is actually a pretty decent motivator! Thanks very much for your interest. |

The price is quite reasonable as an ebook..so I just bought it! But you must promise to spend your vast royalties on more lead! :) |
Gorman | 02 Feb 2016 12:35 a.m. PST |
@Tony S – yes, the publishers released it as an ebook first on sales promotion! Thanks for the support! And of course, I'll have no other choice but to do that! |
