Hello, I am trying to find the best match in the Fullthrust weapons arsenal to convert several ship classes. I would like your opinion on the best fit to represent a mass of "lighter" Laser/Blaster/Battery weapons. For example look at the weapons batteries of the Murder class Cruiser for the BFG Chaos Fleet.
When I look at the model I see a mass of short range weapons. Another example is Star War's Turbo Laser batteries. These are an energy bolt type weapon and not a Star Trek type Beam.
A Gattling Battery seems logical. It is short range with lots of attack dice. But like all beam weapons it has the potential for penetrating the screens. We have seen some impressive sequences of sixes rolled in our games. While this visual is "Sci-Fi" logical in what is a Beam/Phaser type weapon. It seems counter intuitive in a weapon firing a short burst of "something." That is why I am asking if there is another choice that would be a better fit. Should such small individual weapons get penetrating damage. Is the fix as simple as removing the re-roll ability? Thanks |

The re-roll also represents the lucky shot that strikes a weak point and this is just as valid for pulse weaponry as for beam. If you do decide to remove the re-roll you will also need to re-jig the mass/points cost and class 1 batteries can't get any smaller or much cheaper. Of course if your designing them for scenarios where the opposing fleets are preset you can throw the points system out the window and tweak till it works. First and last question is as always 'will it make a more enjoyable game?'. Robert |

You could use the Gatling battery, but remove the reroll ability. I'd say reduce the cost by at least 1/mass. Have you considered calling them a K-1 gun? I know they technically aren't solid projectiles, but this way you have mimimal chance of penetrating damage if you stick with a level 1 K-gun (roll of 1 on a D6 doubles your damage). And there are short range versions, standard range, or long range versions. |

I always imagine the K guns as very long rail runs. Even the smaller ones. K-1 batteries represent a series of weapons all around the ship to get the 360 Arc. as opposed to one barrel that swivels. I do the same for Class 1 beams; small weapon mounts all around the ship that may or not be modeled on the mini. It all depends on the visual we choose. |

But aren't the Kra'vak's weapons already labeled as K guns? If you're using them as a Gatling battery why not go with a G gun label? |

I was reading the fighter section and I got this idea. I can use the rules of the Gatling Batteries and treat them as cannons. This would use the same rules as cannon armed fighters, section 8.15 in Fullthrust Continuum rules. So 12" range, 6 BD, ignore screens, but no re-rolls. A short range projectile barrage. Seems to fit? |
