Here's some real-tech -- Robert Fulton's "Diving Boat," the world's first practical submarine. He built and tested this in France in 1800, and in 1801 conducted a test in which the "Nautilis" sailed underwater to an anchored sloop where it attached an explosive charge, and moved to a safe distance before it detonated and sunk the ship.

Well Fulton did offer to put steam engines on some boats for Napoleon so that they could get across the Channel before the English could send any ships out to stop them.

Can you see the 1805 army Napoleon had gathered on the coast in England, before the English even knew what happened.
