We've all heard about "the pledge" and some, including myself, have participated. Now, the pledge works if you are not really goal driven and can just knock out a bunch of minis just because. But what if you work better when you have a goal to accomplish?

So I am going to start "a project for the month." It's sort of like the pledge but for the month, you work toward actually finishing a project. So, for instance, this month I am finishing up my 6mm forces for Rapid Fire and several other small bathtub sized games. Next month I'll probably work on my 1/72 scale Fantasy LotR figures…maybe some Rohan Riders or something. The month after that I'll return to WW2 with perhaps finishing off my 1/72 scale Desert troops.

This way, you get some continuity in painting AND you won't get too bored painting the same style of figure over and over for months on end.

A final note, purchases should only be made to further the project you are working on.

Thoughts? Has anyone else tried something like this?

John, I try to do something similar. I find that I am more motivated if I am working towards putting on a game. So I try to do the "game/project" of the month. I am mostly adding to existing collections, so whatever I finish is just in addition to what I already have. At the end of the month, I put on a game, either for our local club, or just as a solo game for myself. I have about a dozen different periods/games, so each comes up about once a year.
