Howdy folks,

I've started painting up my BF Soviet box and thought it made a great excuse to go to the Canadian War Museum.

It's a little pick heavy…enjoy.

Enjoy? That post is gold! Giving me some damn good ideas about weathering.

Ah man….do I have to paint the side skirts black 😕? It does look right to me!

Thanks gents…my intent is to keep posting my research as I go along…I try to get to the museum every couple of months. I've got a bunch of Canadian kit pics as well…

Cheers.

Were all the side skirts of Russian tanks rubber circa 85ish, or just that particular T72?

Barin131 Jan 2016 3:41 a.m. PST

I suppose it depends on the location. In Karelia, where I spent my army years the skirts might create problems in winter time and spring/autumn where there's plenty of dirt and mud. Never seen the skirts like this…may be this tank represents T-72 in first Chechen war where all kind of improvised defences were used…

On a side note – interesting that many museums are displaying Kalashnikovs with orange magazines. These were used only in the garrisons for parades, trainings and some time for guard duies (guarding banners, etc). Normally magazine will be plain dark metal….
