I really like Perry Miniatures'Joseon Heavy infantry with twin swords, but I was wondering if there is any actual evidence to support this fighting style. I was under the impression that using two weapons in battle was not actually done or at least very uncommon. Does anyone have more information on this? |

The two-sword method is described in Joseon military manuals – see link which has a drawing from one manual of an armoured cavalryman with two swords. This isn't direct evidence of use in combat, though. |

Whether these techniques were used in battle in the Imjin war is hard to say, the manual they are recorded in, the Muyedobotongji was drawn up in the later 18th Century, though they may well reflect earlier practice. Like many martial arts techniques they might work better in a duel than on a battlefield. Here at least is an illustration; link I do seem to recall I Japanese depiction of an Imjin war encounter with a (possibly Ming) warrior on horseback fending off a blow with crossed twin swords. |

While they existed, and I'm sure they were practiced as martial arts skills, I doubt practitioners existed in enough quantities to be fielded as entire units. I suspect they are skills known, but not employed, by certain Korean Knights when fighting in military actions. Still, I use them scattered in my Imjin War units to add color. |
