Great looking product and love the idea of a uniform guide built into the Scenario book.

Umm, the fact that they seem to think that the campaign happened in Asia doesn't fill me with great confidence.

It would helpful to know if the scenarios are only suitable for their rules system or whether they can be adapted for other sets of rules. For example, do they have OBs with numbers of combatants and maps with a ground scale stated?

I guess not everyone has seen The Princess Bride…

Nope. This is the second time recently that attention has been drawn to my ignorance of this film on TMP. Not sure that I would base my advertising campaign around a reference that is only going to make sense to those who have seen the film, but I'm not the one trying to sell the product. I suppose that I had better try and watch the film sometime.

AussieAndy – I think the slide show showed OOBs if you had a chance to go through it.

I wonder how much the uniform info added to the cost of the product. Personally I don't need more uniform info as I have an extensive library full of it already. Still, very nice for a new person or someone without all the uniform info. For me though, I am more interested in the scenarios and campaign.

A nice idea, but as already stated Russia up to the Ural mountains is generally considered to be on the European continent. Oops!

Guthroth27 Jan 2016 5:53 a.m. PST

By whom ? Most importantly did Napoleon consider it to be Asia ?

Marc at work27 Jan 2016 6:32 a.m. PST

Actually, that looks rather spiffing. The slide show did not fit 100% onto my screen, so I have probably missed some bits, so subject to cost I could be tempted. The OOB and maps look quite useful at a generic level.

Did it mention somewhere the cost? Is it paper or e?

Thanks

Marc

(And I assumed the sub heading was a joke and it did not put me off at all…)

Here's the page from his store tab on the book:

From the price, $60 USD, evidently printed not electronic.

Not in 1812 by most of Europe. It was only beginning with Peter the Great that Russians argued that Russia was part of Europe… Even in WWII, there was a lot of talk about Hitler and his land war in Asia…

It all depends on the POV of the speaker.

Hello.

It is my understanding that Russia was by 1812 very much considered a Euripean 'player' following the various campaigns that it had participated in. The Eastern sector of Russia certainly had Western leanings and in society at least French was a popular language. The late David Chandler, ' The campaigns of Napoleon' does not appear to mention Aisian intrigues in his magnificent book.

However, I digress. When I did my geography studies the Urals was considered the boundary of the European continent and the beginning of Asia.

I may be in error, but I humbly submit the following.

I found the reference to the "Land war in Asia" amusing. But then I've read the book "The Princess Bride".

Having seen a draft of the product I was impressed with the content. It covers 9 battles from Mir through to Borodino all associated with the central column.

All battles have three briefings, one French, one Russian, and one for the umpire. The Umpire briefings include optional forces and variations on the action. So it is possible to play multiple "what if" versions of the same game.

As to adaptablity. ESR is another 1 stand = 1 battalion rules. That said I see no difficulty in adapting the OoBs for other rule set. Indeed I intend to play out Saltanovka (Mogilev) under Napoleonic Command later this year.

I've played the Battle of Loubino (Valoutino-Gora) under ESR at a local convention in December and it's a close run thing that could go either way. My club ran the same battle earlier this months and we were equally impressed.
