A Klingon commando raid on a Romulan research station? This is my second take on the subject. The scenario is written for Full Thrust, but I imagine it could be adapted for other systems too.

- Part 2 (the game): link

Hmm, no evidence of blog pages at the links… maybe the Romulan's cloaks are working too well… |

The links in your second post work fine, Colgar. Thanks for the AAR. Yeah, the Klingons had their work cut out for them. Looks like it was an interesting game. Just out of curiosity, any particular reason you didn't use the marine boarding rules from FT:Project Continuum? |

Just out of curiosity, any particular reason you didn't use the marine boarding rules from FT:Project Continuum? Well, the first reason is that I didn't remember that there were any boarding rules in FT:Continuum! This is somewhat embarrassing as I have read the booklet, albeit not very recently. So, the boarding rules in "original" Full Thrust are extremely basic and not at all to my taste. Having read the FT:Continuum alterations just now, I find that they aren't really what I'm looking for either. I'm not keen on the idea that in order to capture a ship or facility, your marines basically have to trash the place so completely that it is barely holding together. That wouldn't be any use at all for pirates and even "regular" navies aren't often so brutal. I'm not trying to claim that my own boarding rules are perfect – after all, they've only seen use in this one action and are therefore barely tested. But they fit better my vision of how boarding takes place in popular fiction (TV, movies, books). Any suggestions for improvements are always welcome, of course! |

Where are the plasma torpedo rules that you're using? |

Looks like a good game. Who manufactured the ships? |

Gotcha on the FT:PC rules not being what you are looking for. I did do a variation on the rules for the Insectoids I did for FT. They used stunning weapons, but when one would normally inflict a hull damage, they instead just put a dot there – the dot represented time spent hunting their victims, and the box could still absorb a hit from ship to ship weaponry. When they dotted a crew unit, that crew unit was "captured/stunned". When the ship was empty, they'd abandon the hulk – their Marines didn't inflict permanent hull damage per se. Or if you'd rather, see if you can flesh out some rules for using transporters to capture stuff and submit them to Jim or I and we'll look them over – you're right in that there is a need to capture facilities occasionally and the current rules don't allow for that w/o trashing the place. Maybe the Commando raid rules (section 5.9) could be modified to allow an attempt to capture/steal items/personnel instead of destroying systems? |

Great looking game, rough day for the Klingons though! I love your Trek conversion, one of the best 'Full Trek' ship sets out there. -Will |

Gear Pilot: I know some are Irregular out of the UK. I think there may be some Studio Bergstrom Irrational Designs, but not sure. Hugh has a wealth of SSD's designed for different models; do roam the blog. ;->= Doug |

Where are the plasma torpedo rules that you're using? I'm using the "Plasma Bolt" exactly as written, from the Phalon aliens. These were originally in "Full Thrust: Fleet Book 2", though I cannot check right now if plasma bolts are mentioned in the newer "FT:Cross Dimensions" or "FT: Continuum". Who manufactured the ships? Doug is very nearly 100% correct. The Klingons are a mixture of Irregular (for the medium ships) and Studio Bergstrom (the large and small ones). Their assault shuttles are from Games Workshop. The Romulans are a mixture of Studio Bergstrom (the heavier cruisers) and Shapeways (for the smaller ships, though these are Ferlin Pomfrett rather than Irrational Designs). |

Evant cards pinched, Hugh, with thanks. ;) Looks like your 'Trek games have a lot of diversity, and are scenario driven, rather than 'who kills the most'. Great stuff! |

You got me, Hugh. I was focused on the Klinks, and those shuttles… Well, the eyes are getting old… ;>= Still can't quite figure them out, though. Event cards pinched, Hugh, with thanks. ;) Hugh has a wealth of… Yeah, bit silly of me to ONLY mention the SSD's. ;->= Doug |
