Looking for input on mixing Aventine, Relic, Polemarch and Crusader 28mm Successor figs either in same unit or in different units but within same OOB. For phalanx? For cavalry units? For example, I need 10 companion and agema etc cav units. What do you think of having one Aventine unit, one Polemarch unit, etc? |

I would run with units made from a single manufacturer. The one exception is that Foundry and Polemarch work very well together within the same unit, being by the same sculptor. I am quite OCD about the size and style of miniatures, though, I'm sure many others will be able to mix minis quite happily. |

I concur with BigTedBat. I keep the minis in each unit to a single manufacturer/range, but happily use units from different makers within an army. I admit to, on occasion, one exception to this rule and that is with the command figures within a unit, usually a mounted figure. |

I don't know about Polemarch, but in general Aventine are a bit bigger and bulkier than Crusader and Relic. But various sized people might fit in a unit and give it some realistic depth, non-uniformity. If you were going to mix, I'd try Relic and Crusader – I have some of both from different armies, so I've never tried mixing them, but I actually think those might work the best size-wise. Both are smaller in body and limbs than Aventine. |

I agree with using units made from a single manufacturer. But units from different manufacturers are fine in a single army. So one Companion unit of Aventine and another of Polemarch sounds good to me. |

For cavalry, I have mixed Relic (good charging poses) and Polemarch Seleucid Cataphracts and they work well. Similarly a mixed 'eastern' Successor unit of A&A, Aventine and Crusader Command with Aventine for the rest. Relic makes a good Seleucid Agema. For infantry I tend to use the same manufacturer for each unit. |

I mixed Aventine and Foundry together. I guess it's up to you then if you like the way it looks. |

It's worth mentioning that Relic make lovely small engraved shields, I've been using them with Polemarch and Foundry minis. |

Simon ,what does the back of Relics shield look like. Maybe like Foundry? |

Yes, whether Relic shields will look right size on Aventine, Polemarch etc? |

The Relic shields are domed and fit well onto Foundry and Polemarch. The below photo is terrible but fives an idea of size:
I used them on my agema and peltastoi who would have carried smaller shields. |

Don't forget 1st Corps. They have an excellent range of Successor figures in 28mm and I've found them compatable with both Foundry and Aventine. Their elephants are especially good. link |
