Well, when I say 'work in progress' I mean 'just started'

So far just cleaned up and, for the TBDs, bases removed and paired to MDF bases from Warbases. I thought I'd post at this stage to canvass opinion on the TBD basing.

I'm planning on using GQ2 with the fleet action amendments so, with 2 TBDs to a base, I'll be pairing them up and using one SDS card for 4 TBDs. The CL bases will be similarly paired up with two ships per SDS. None of these are stuck down as yet so I can still change my mind.

Lovely castings as always from Hallmark. If anyone can tell me which BC is which I'd be grateful – otherwise it's an evening sat down with a copy of Janes' to work it out – so no great hardship there.

It's meant to be 2 x Moltke, Derflinger, Von der Tann and Blucher, but I can't see two the same!

I'll update with my progress. Cheers,

Nick

Nick,

I don't think you have Derfflinger. They look like (from left to right): Blucher, Seydlitz, 2xMoltke and Von Der Tann.

Cheers Mark – reckon you're right! Just checked the pack and Derflinger's not included – it comes as a separate pack of 3 from Hallmark.

Ah, well…

It would have been nice if Hallmark had included Derflinger and left out one of the Molkes (as the other one was not part of the High Seas Fleet) so I wouldn't have to buy two packs for the 1st Scouting Group.

…so I wouldn't have to buy two packs…

Um….

Nevermind.

I do like the TBD basing, assuming they operated in at least pairs, the offset keeps their weapons clear fore/aft/starboard/port. And individual bases would be very fiddly.

You could rationalize including the second Moltke, the Goeben. She was overdue to return to Germany in the summer of 1914 (to be replaced by Blucher I think) when events spun out of control too quickly.

Blucher is the shortest, followed by Von Der Tann. Seydlitz is the longest one with the high forecastle.

The Derfflinger pack has all three ships of the class.

Yep. I base my 1/2400 DDs in pairs but leave the CLs single for things like the Helgoland Bight action.
