Lads, I'm looking for some base color ideas for Star Trek minis. Since I don't have access to an airbrush, I'm looking for ideas/suggestions for colors out of a can. I thinking Testors, Krylon, Tremclad, etc. More specifically, I'm looking for base colors for the following: Federation: The Original Series era; The Motion Picture Era; Star Trek Nemesis era (think Sovereign Class Enterprise) Klingon: All Eras. Looking for a "grey" that I can use cross eras. Romulans: Again, all eras. Looking for that glowing "green" seen in TNG. Any help is appreciated. -B6 |

IIRC the TOS Enterprise was spraypainted Ford Engine Grey. I use GW's Fortress Grey, or whatever its new equivalent is. Damon. |

I thought the Klingon ships were green and Romulans were white. |

I've been trying to figure out what color to paint my TOS federation ships in particular, and found this link to be useful: link I've been looking for a quick and easy spray paint (though don't know if I will go that route yet) and am considering the following… For TOS Federation. I think Liquitex spray Chromium Oxide Green is a pretty close match, but I worry that it is too dark to look right in miniature scale. Additionally, I am relying on online color charts to this point. I've also considered Montana Black spray 6310 Olymp, which I think is lighter and maybe too green, but might look better in scale. Dick Blick art supply is one source for these. I haven't gotten around to matching bottled paints yet. |

Thanks guys. Vince, I wanted to stay away from mixing paint and gooping it on with a brush. Since I don't have an airbrush, I'm trying to find spray can colors as I find spraying gives me more uniformity. I found an old note I made from a post at the SCN Forums which stated: For TMP and TOS Feds – Testors Light Sea Grey Klingon Grey (Battlecruisers) – Testors Flat Gull Grey Or maybe it was the other way around. Trial and error sounds like it's the order of the day. -B6 |
