Kept toying with the idea of doing Team Yankee in 15mm or 6mm and in the end the "look" doesn't grab me much. So I'm going to make some armies just using counters (print the counter, glue to a Litko plywood counter). $35 USD for the PDF, $20 USD for the plywood. Spent an hour gluing the suckers together. I'll play on a traditional table with full blown terrain etc. Anyone else opt for counters for a game? |

You don't have 6mm?!? 😎😜🤓 Web has top down PDFs of modern vehicles, also old board games. Really it is a simulation / game balance, as with all tabletop Wargames. I prefer smaller scale for this period. As to look…take a closer look at the GHQ stuff, for a better price (imho) CnC. pfc-cinc.com/front_page.html . I generally use counters for hidden deployment or General's characteristic stats ( drawn randomly at the start of a game). |

Here's a shot the kind of table I would set up:
I would use all my normal 6mm terrain and just use counters instead of micro armor. |

Isn't that what Blucher and Longstreet do ? |

I've thought of doing that for microarmor infantry. Same goes for 1/1200th bomber games too. |

I've also been toying with the idea of doing 6mm micro armor but use counters for the infantry/inf. support types. |

Years ago, I used to make counters to try out a new ruleset, if I didn't have suitable figures yet. |

It's how I got a board gaming friend into miniatures, using cardboard counters to play DBA. Now he owns various DBA armies, 7YW French, Napoloenic Russians, 1870 Prussians. I also think of using counters to try out a new period, etc. |

Not Longstreet. And Blucher only provides cards as an option to allow a quick start. Personally, I far preferred the games of Blucher that I played with a figures rather than those with cards. There was no functional difference. On the other hand, that's a really nice set-up. |

For a long time we used vehicles in 6mm, but cardboard counters for infantry and crew served weapons. But then we discovered Mainforce's infantry, all prone, easy to paint with a good look on the table and stuck with those. |

I made up over-head view counters (approx. 15mm) to play Square Bashing. It worked quite well |

I use counters when playtesting; speeds up the set up and break down.but there are some great topdown counters out there which I would use in lieu of minis in a "normal" nonplaytest game. |

Our ancmed game is essentially a counters game. We just paint and glue miniatures to the counters, because we prefer the look. Modelers are kind of funny that way…. |
