Nice conversions. Any tips to offer on tools & techniques used to remove the original heads, and prepare the torsos to accept the Kings Mountain heads? Were you able to salvage the original heads, or were they destroyed in the process? |

Wow! Those are sweet, Bill. If I can keep from decapitating my thumbs I think I'm going to try some. Eric |

I have used an Xacto saw in the past. File the neck smooth and drill out a socket with a pin vise drill. You can also twist the head off with pliers. To protect the head, wrap the jaws with cloth or foam. |

Those are very nice conversions. I use a jewelers' saw for my decapitations as it gives a much cleaner and even cut. |

One King's Mountain head that I love is the plumed hat worn by the officer in the second photo from the bottom. |

Me too John, He's slated to be my senior Loyalist officer. I use a small pair of wire cutter pliers to cut the heads. Get a pair that cut flat rather than at an angle. I put the pliers at the neck join and twist. The head will come off whole. It really depends on how much pressure you use while twisting as too how clean a cut you get. With practice, you can make clean cuts every time. Try is on some extra junk figures until you get the "feel" for it. Then I use an Exacto knife to make an indent right in the middle of the neck. I then use a pin vise with a small drill bit. Place the tip of the bit ne the indent made with the knife and drill slowly being careful not to slide all over the place. If you begin to slide go back to the Exacto knife and make a bigger mark. That's it. |

These look fantastic, Bill. You must have the most unique AWI collection around! |

I knocked off another 10 AWI head replacements tonight. I'm thinking that if I do 10 a night for the next month, that will give me 12 unique units of 24 figures each. Right now I'm planning on Washinton's Guard, Rhode Island Infantry, Morgans Riflemen at Saratoga, Philly Associators at Princeton and Congress' Own Regiment. All of the units will have proper headgear, using my own KMM heads. Any suggestions? |

But then you have to paint them. That is where my progress comes to a halt. |

If you are doing a "free to a good home" on any of these, I'll take the Philadelphia Associators, and I promise to take pictures when I do a Princeton TSATF Flames of Liberty game. |

I like the Jeremaiah Johnson Looking fellow in figure 8. |
