On Friday the guys assembled at my place to refight the Battle of Kolin. We'd done this game before using BP but wanted to try the scenario again using HoW. The game was excellent and the rules worked very well, and they are now our ruleset of choice for the SYW (and WAS). {can I claim commission Keith? lol} A full account can be found on my blog carryingsonupthedale.com but here are a few photos to be going on with.

Getting 404 error from link to pics, but blog link is fine. Game looks excellent. I have been thinking about getting these rules, as my group are quite keen on 18th century. We use " home- grown" at the moment, but yours is one of several reports that have had good things to say about them. |

Beautiful! The table, however, is a bit too full of items. |

Enjoyed that HOW does seem to deliver the goods in a free flowing uncomplicated style. |

Looks like it was a belter of a battle. I don't think it looks too crowded at all. It looks right to me. BTW. I visited Kreczor and it's surrounds a few years ago and was very inspired by what is a very unspoilt battlefield. The 'hills' on which the battle was fought were much higher than the Kaiser Strasse but they rise so gradually and steadily from it that they wouldn't slow movement or provide much of an advantage in melee.
What would be an obstacle, is the TYW earthwork that stretches along the top of the ridge eastwards from Kreczor. I'm really not surprised that the Prussians failed to break through.
Your church is very close to how the real one looks, and it too was surrounded by deep ditches / old works. It would have been a tough job to evict the Grenzers there.

Breathtaking! What a fantastic wargames room! Really like the height of your table. |

Great pix James. I had the same impression of Krechorz when I was there. I guess that the Austrians didn't have a lot of time to further prepare the position for an attack, otherwise it would have been a Hougoumont like experience methinks. |

Beautifully done. I love big games with lots of troops! |

I don't think the table is "too full of items" at all! I'm becoming a fan of terrain that is there just to make the table look more life like without any impact on the game play itself. Why paint beautiful armies to plunk them down on vacant felt? |

Great stuff. Love those Conflix houses. Thanks for the photos Olicana. |

Thanks everyone for the positive comments and James for the photos. Im not sure what 'items' there are too many of, but I like to make my tabletop busy with terrain and little vignettes, in order to bring it life. |

I'm going to have to take a serious look at these rules. Thanks for sharing. |

love the congested battlefield. Nice buildings and terrain layout. Photos could be better though… |

Nice~! Can you tell us what you liked about the rules? Also what figures are those. They are fantastic. |

The rules are simple, and make you think and operate carefully and to us seem to reflect SYW linear warfare well. The figures are a mix of Minden, RSM, Front Rank, Black Hussar and Foundry. |
