I am thinking about the detachment of the 63rd Foot in the South for skirmish Wargaming. Does anyone make anything that might work ok for them?

As they fought dismounted I modelled them on foot but made horse holders using Perry dragrope men and Front Rank horses.

Actually, that's a very clever idea. I hadn't thought about that…

Along the same lines, I would like to have 28mm mounted Jaegers.

GNU2000, can you give any adivce or paitning guides on the redcoat infantry that you paint?

Redcoat 5524 Jan 2016 10:46 a.m. PST

That is a good idea, but as I am aiming to use them for skirmish gaming I need them both ways, mounted and unmounted.

I may have stumbled on an acceptable if not perfect solution. Eureka makes American light Dragoons with different hat options including cocked hats and uncocked round hats. If I can find 28mm scale muskets I could use the ensign figure and put a musket in his hand instead of a flag. It is not a perfect solution especially due to the boots but is better than nothing.

Front Rank sell packs of 25mm muskets.

6mm hero. I block-paint over a grey undercoat, brush on strong tone ink then highlight with the original colours. For redcoats I use basic reds and Scarlett's by GW and/or Vallejo. Nothing special or sophisticated.
The one colour I that I don't really compromise on is flesh; I only use Humbrol acrylic flesh and don't really like any others.

I just finished the 63rd from my Death or Liberty box

6mm hero, I'm very "old school" I prime in white, the 2 coats of Americana true red craft paint from hobby lobby- 24 hours apart, then I glosses them all shiny like. Feel free to skip the last part, I am the targ of slings and arrows of derision for this act of vice. I'd post picks but I never could figure out how. By the way, the Hessian oberst from Wargames factory looks exactly like Will Ferrell. Don't believe me. Paint one up and look at his face with a mustache, Ron Burgundy from Hess Kessel!

There are plenty of extra muskets in almost all of the plastic releases.

Cool thanks for the tips. similar to how I have tried painting mine. how does the strong tone go over the white? Is it easy enough to reapply the white over the top of it?

Gnu200027 Jan 2016 3:09 a.m. PST

My method is to let the strong tone dry then go over large white areas with thinned pale grey paint before starting with the white highlights. On belts and so forth I don't bother and just use white over the strong tone.
