So I am slowly getting back into Flames of War after a long hiatus. The last version I played was 2nd and I have picked up the current gamer copy of the rules along with the Guts and Glory supplement so I can do some late war Americans. However I started Flames of War with a nice 8th army box set way back that has horse artillery, motor company rife platoon, MG platoon with universal carriers, scout universal carrier, HQ, three Sherman II Tanks and three Cruiser III tanks. As far as I can find the current crop of theater books would have everything except the Shermans and the Cruiser IIIs. I am fine with getting earlier Cruiser tanks and Matildas but are there any mid war lists for the current rules? Thanks |

They're getting ready to release North Africa and Eastern Front on digital with the V3 updates… |

It has only been about 5 years, good job I didn't try holding my breath ;) 3:) |

Honestly the MW lists have generally worked just fine without update… |

You don't really need the update. The existing North Africa book is easily compatible with V3. |

I never bought the 2nd ed North Africa book. Instead I have the 1st Desert Rats book and the the DAK book. I doubt those list still translate, or do they? Good to know that there will be a North Africa release for V3. |

There were pretty massive changes from 1e to 2e, so the oldest books won't translate. But Hellfire and Back and Burning Empires are great books. IIRC, the Raiding Aces minicampaign is in Burning Empires, and I really like the Aces campaigns. |

yep pulled out my old 1st Ed books and compared it to online pdfs of the North Africa and AfriKa books that I believe were 2nd or 2.2 edition and there are significant differences in points and yes the game is clearly different. As an example my old "Light Armored Platoon" of Cruiser tanks which start as Cruiser IIs were 20 points to upgrade to Cruiser IIIs. Now this is only a 5 point upgrade but you cannot upgrade the command tank. |

It doesn't matter what edition book you use if both armies come out of the same book. That's what I try to do since I've heard there are disparities between the books even if they're from the same edition or time period. I've been using Hellfire & Back for early war and North Africa for mid-war. |

@Wizbangs: The v1 books were only for a single army/theater/nation, so it's a little tough to have axis v allies out of the same book. @kallman: Big reason for the Crusader III points drop was the loss of Tally Ho! on the 6pdr. No more easy side shots on Tigers. |

So where does one find the stats for the Crusader III among the FoW supplements? |

If you want to use motorcycles or 17/25pdrs in V3 then the V2 books are far from fine as they are. While the basic lists are probably ok there are a lot of tweaks that really should be applied and with electronic lists we might finally get MW French etc. |
