I've come again in the hope one of you can help me. I'm looking for 25/28mm figures in metal depicting men in the classic NASA space suit, armed with weaponry. Inexpensive is good, if there is such a thing.

If any are interested, what I'm considering doing is a tabletop rendition of the old Microgame called Olympica by Metagaming. The space-suited chaps will be my UN infantry. They should look something like this: link (Scroll down to Microgame#7) I'm not sure if Walt O'Hara is still frequenting TMP, but he did a similar project a few years ago, though in a different scale (6mm): link

If I can find the appropriate "Suits" my next job will be to find some suitable tanks and lifters. THANK YOU for any help!

Walt was around last week, but I sent him a PM and no reply.

I remember Olympica fondly. grin

Two thoughts – the Airfix Astronauts can be converted to be more aggressive looking – the chap with a camera already looks like he has a ray gun.

Second thought – the old Minifigs SF ranges – some are back in production link

Thank you kindly. Bill, I know what you mean about PM's--sometimes I wonder if mine is working…

20th Maine--excellent suggestions, both. I'll definitely keep them in mind. I appreciate the leads!

Sniffing about I also found these: link The legionnaires and marines are pretty close to what I want. We'll see.

Victory Force Miniatures Spacefarer line could work too:

If you can be talked into doing 15mm:

Those VF minis do look nice.

A shame they're so expensive, but they do have the occasional sale.

The Ral Partha Galactic Grenadiers are old school 25mm and they can be found on e-bay, sometimes quite cheaply. There is a small variety of poses, but they have the classic NASA helmet shape.

I can't thank you all enough for all the recommendations. The Blue Moon, Ral Partha and Crooked Dice all look good, and would make excellent choices for the project. The best of the bunch, however, are the VF sculpts; they are exactly what I was looking for. I had no idea they existed, so I'm really very grateful!

Now to start thinking about what to use as tanks and strongpoints…

Very cool project, I hope you post blog update/project updates here. I've always want to do something similar, but keying off of the old Marine 2002 boardgame.

Daryl Haselton: I was interested in doing a remake of the old metagaming game ARTIFACT using plastic spacemen that were readily available from dime stores from the 60s onward. There was a certain type, based on Marx, that was 54mm and probably a little larger than I wanted to work with, but wow, that was way bigger a scale than I was looking for.

If you mean my old Olympica project (10mm-ish) from about 4 years ago, I used rebased Mechwarrior clickie infantry, mounted on poker chips. Incredibly cheap and they had the right look with very little touching up.

Some links of that project, with pictures:

PS: Bill- I didn't notice the PM, I replied. sorry!

Those are some great photos of your set-up, Walt. I love the look of your strongpoints--I assume they are some sort of foam?

The Marine 2002(!) game sounds interesting, SB! Be sure to post if you follow through with it.

Is there any interest in combat astronauts with a more gritty modernistic look to them? Magazine pouches and gyrojet rifles and all that jazz?
