Internet reviews have been cranky for some time, the website went down this week, and the shops neighbouring their locked-up bricks-and-mortar in Boronia report that the receivers have been in and the sheriff has been sniffing about.

No surprises there. They were very unreliable as a mail order company.

Back in the day they weren't. I remember as a young teen in the eighties getting their catalogues, just going through everything. Milsims really helped raise my awareness of the wider hobby with those.

But yeah, doesn't excuse poor practice of recent times.

Battlefield, Milsims, Napoleon's (all of them), Tin Soldier… seems like most of the old guard I remember are gone now.

Mind Games left Sydney ages ago, but do they still operate in Melbourne?

bsrlee20 Jan 2016 11:13 a.m. PST

Canberra seems to be the place to be these days. Mind Games was there last time I was there but the area they were in was going to be re-developed so they may have moved.

There were even new shops opening in the last year as well as several reasonable bookshops with remainder and second hand books.

Yes, Mind Games is still in Melbourne with a reasonable range, at least they were a few months ago.

Tactics in Perth are still going strong. Its still one of the best all round wargaming stores i have visited.

Yes, I agree, Duck. That's sad news. I have been buying games from Milsims and previously Jedko Games (still operating but no longer in the war-game market) since the 1970s! Every school holidays I'd get the bus down to 18 Fonceca St Moorabbin and spend every cent I could on classics such as African Campaign. Sigh!

Yes, McWong, I spent many an hour over that catalog!

Mind Games Melbourne is (as has been said) going strong – and I notice a number of games shops over Melbourne are now selling board games – the competition must have got to much for Milsims. But, I agree, it's gone downhill in recent years.

Thats sad. I have many memories of pooring over their paper catalogue and they whad a good range of boardgames :(

Maxshadow29 Jan 2016 4:49 a.m. PST

Very sad to hear.

They still owed me a game I paid for….$80 down the drain…..having said that I used to love to get their catalogues in the eighties….so many descriptions and photos, a shame it ended this way!

Dogged a bullet here – was just about to get something.

Having been the bringer of bad news, I'm happy to bring the good.

Mislims is back, having been bought out by new folks. I've bought things from them and they are indeed making great efforts to restore the reputation.

The new store is also beautifully laid out. For example, each variant of each Wings of Glory plane has its own place on the rack. None of this digging behind all the stock to find what you want.
