I'm just setting out to repaint and remount a whole load of old 25mm Ancients I've had since the dawn of time. Now they will never look as good as modern figures but as they will be used against each other that doesn't matter too much. However, one thing I'm determined to do is remove and replace all the Spears/Javelins etc that were cast with the figures and so look permanently like boomerangs. Bearing in mind these are real old school 25mm, I need a range of replacements that have sizes that won't make Barbarian tribesmen look like they belong in a Phalanx, or leave me with weeks of work cutting wire spears down to size! Any suggestions? And before anyone says it – I'm not making my own! |

Are you looking for new lead cast ones or wire spears? If wire then Nick at North Star sells two sets in 100mm and 50mm. The 50mm ones are a narrower gauge than the 100mm ones. 50mm will probably be long still and you will have to cut them down, but they would probably be good for you scalewise. |

I also use the Northstar spears & keep the pieces of brass rod left over from cutting down the spears, to use when pinning models. Also, I've used nylon bristles from a scrub brush or broom depending on the thickness you want. If you trim the bristle into a point & then crimp it with some pliers, it kind of flattens it into a spear point. & the nylon won't draw blood like the northstar spears to. |

Perry do some as well, but I use North Star by choice too! |

It's always worth snipping the end of the tip off of the North Stars and filing to a leaf shape, in order to prevent the unnecessary effusion of blood. |

Drawing Northstar blood is part of the gaming experience! Another vote for them. |

Easy, Northstar. I like the blood drawing--keeps gamers on their toes. |

Fireforge now has plastic spears in a variety of sizes. I recommend them. The spear heads are more realistic the hammered-flat end of a wire. And they don't draw blood… link |

Wow! That's pretty strong vote for North Star. I don't mind the stabbing, the ones I got before for some Roman cavalry (can't recall where from) do that anyway! The Fireforge ones look interesting I wonder how thick they are? |
