War & Empire have a great range. I have always liked Old Glory Republican Romans too. 15mm.co.uk (TTG), has a nice Late Roman Range.

Republican Romans, I've always loved Old Glory.

Republican Romans: Xyston

The AB Romans are pretty good. IIRC they were sculpted by Tony Barton for a German Museum working on a diorama.

Delbruck19 Jan 2016 2:33 p.m. PST

Corvus Belli made very nice Late Republican and Early Imperial Romans.

Legio Heroica make great Late Romans

West wind make really nice Republican Romans, and will be releasing Imperial Romans and 3rd century Romans this year.

Xyston, while nice are massive for 15mm. I have loads of their Greeks and Persians but the Romans tower over them.

For my Early Imperial Romans I used Old Glory plus the Corvus Belli in marching kit and a few Essex standard bearers. You can my collection at link

Aurelian era Romans from Khurasan.

Essex Republicans. Easy to paint and they look great on the tabletop.

I like Donnington, Old Glory and QRF figures mixed in together for Caesarian era legionaries.

For Punic Wars era I use Magister Militum/Chariot and the Strategia e Tattica range (Miniature Wars, IIRC), but not mixed together. I have some Minifigs too but don't like them nearly so much.

I like West Wind, War and Empire. I bought into the original kickstarter just for their Punic Wars Romans and they are very good!

In fact just finished painting nearly 600 of them! lol

There are photos on my blog

Excellent paint job Frostie, I particularly like the Leves figures.
I'm heavily into the second kickstarter, having missed out on the first one, although I do have some velites and early Persians from the first one.

Define "best"; is it pose, sculpt, charm, nostalgia and so on? If it's charm and nostalgia, nothing beats the old minifigs….:) but they don't cut it for pose, sculpt etc.

I like the Donnington Caesarians. They may not be the nicest sculpts but they're a pleasure to paint and look good en masse.

sukhoi26 Jan 2016 9:07 a.m. PST

I like Donnington's Late Romans especially the auxilia. The painted figures on their website aren't exactly doing them any favours. They are cleanly cast and you can buy them in any quantity you like.
